16u Jays Play to a Tie in a Defensive Battle With the Huntington A's

June 18, 2015

The Huntington Athletics and East Coast Jays 16u played to a 2-2 tie on Thursday at Harborfields HS in the 17u Boys of Summer League.

The Huntington Athletics jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st as the Jays' starting pitcher uncharacteristically got into trouble early in the game.

The Jays' relief pitcher entered in the bottom of the 2nd inning and quickly quieted the A's bats.

The Jays then grabbed 2 runs in the 4th inning but were unable keep the lead as the A's team tied the game in the 6th.  The A's would threaten to walk away with the win by having bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the 7th inning.  The Jays would then strike out the next 2 batters with their second relief pitcher doing the job.  Down to their final out, the A's batter swung and missed at a pitch that dropped and hit the back of the plate and rolled to the A's side of the backstop. The Jays' catcher quickly slid to the ball and throwing from his butt, made a stellar throw to get the runner by a step to send the game to extra innings.

The two teams were unable to break the tie in the 8th inning as the game ended do to time constraints.

The 16u Jays are 2-1-1 playing up in 17u league play.
