The 16u East Coast Jays faced the Bronx Bombers in the first round of the playoffs at Diamond Nation Thursday night.
East Coast took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning with an RBI single by Max Jennings. However, the Bombers responded with 3 runs of their own and capitalized on some rare errors by the Jays in the 2nd inning. The Bombers also added two more in the 5th inning with 3 consecutive singles.
The Jays got back on the board in the 6th inning with a triple by Oliver Tavares that was followed by an RBI double by Dylan Judd, making the score 5-2. Once again, the Bombers countered with another run in the 7th to take back their 4 run lead and went on to win 6-2.
The Jays' starting pitcher, Sean Napier battled throughout the game as he allowed 3 earned runs while striking out 5 in 6 1/3 innings. Napier also had 2 singles on the night in 3 plate appearances while Carlos Miranda hit a double.
The 16u team finished 4-1 and finished with a #5 ranking in the 65 team tournament.
