Amended Rule

May 3, 2013

Tagging at Home is allowed as an alternate option

Ersla Has a Scoring Line

Scoring line is in effect to avoid collisions at home, the runner must be ahead of the defender, across the scoring line with their foot down, (as if they were making contact with a plate)and, if in the judgement of the umpire, the catcher had control of the ball and in contact with home plate and the runner has not yet touched the ground, an "Out" call would result.

Ersla Does Not have a commitment line

If a commitment line is not in play then the defending team also has the option of implementing a "tag" to effect the out. Tags are offen used when a ball is miss thrown, or the defending player (not always the catcher) has circumstances that lead to the defender having acquired control of the ball and relative field position in relation to the position of the runner.

Slopitch is not fastball, its rules are designed for recreational style players and consequently the safety of those participants. Hence rule variations to make things as safe as possible for participants (orange bag at first, pitcher being 50 ft from the plate)

So players should avoid collisions when ever possible.
