Florida State Takes Care of Business against FIU

The Noles traveled down to Homestead to take on the Florida International Panthers. Ryan Kammerdener started the first game of the series and did not have his usual stuff. But he still pitched to the tune of a 5 inning complete game with 0 earned runs (1 total run), 4 hits, 1 BB, and only 1 K (received his league leading 4th win of the year). The offense put up a 7 spot in the first innings and kept up the pace for the rest of game 1. Brett Gilman continued his hot hitting as he went 5 for 5 game where he scored 2 runs, had 1 RBI, and one double. Rookies Tim Becker and Sean Malynn both had very good games; Becker went 2-4 with 3 RBIs, a triple, a a walk, and 3 runs scored while Malynn went 3 for 3 with 3 singles, a walk, 2 RBIs and a stolen base. The game ended by the score of 15-1 with almost every starter collecting a hit. The second game was highlighted instead by great pitching. Austin Schultz was nothing short of dominant going 7 inning (CG) with 9 punch outs while only giving up 1 earned run with 3 hits and 3 walks. Schultz kept his team in the game until the Noles scraped across the 2 runs needed to take the lead in the 5th inning. The Noles scraped 2 runs across this inning through good at bats and by staying very patient; the runs were earned by back to back walks from Joey Romano (load the bases and later score on a past ball) and an RBI walk by Junior Delgado to take the lead. The Noles pulled this game out by the final score of 2 to 1. Game 3 was a different story. Danny German threw an impressive 5 innings where he walked 4 but only gave up 1 hit and no runs to earn his first win of the year. The Noles break through inning was a 7 run third inning highlighted by RBI singles from Jason Wilpon, Austin Schultz, Alain Aguiar, and Brett Gilman. Aguiar also added a booming 2 RBI triple in the 4th inning and later scored. Chase Doczi threw a scoreless 6th with 1 K and 1 BB. Will Gerdes finished out the game with a perfect inning with 1 strikeout. The final score was 11-0 and the Noles earned their 4th straight 3 game sweep to put them at a perfect 12-0 on the season. The next series is against the Florida Gators which has serious playoff implications.
