Fargo, ND – The Merchants snapped their three game losing streak Wednesday night as they defeated the Cass County Catfish 11-1 at No Name Field.

The game was close through the first 5½ innings as the Merchants clung to a 3-1 lead. However, a clutch two out, two RBI single by Jameson Benson helped the M’s put up a four spot in the sixth. In the seventh, the new Catfish pitcher walked six of the first seven batters he faced as the Merchants added four more to end the game via the ten-run rule.

The Merchants were paced offensively by newcomer Andrew Hill and “Doppler” Dan Ross who both collect two hits apiece. Ross continues to bust out of his early season slump, he has now gone 5 for 9 in his past three games. “I’ve been putting in a lot of extra soft toss lately, my wife (Dana) is a soft toss expert and has really been teaching me to drive the ball to all fields,” stated Ross as he took a bite of his Spicy Garlic wing at Buffalo Wild Wings Wednesday night.

Joe Vannett and Jason Angelo also had two hits each as the Merchants had eleven hits in all.

On the mound, the Merchants Big 4 held the Catfish hitters to one run on six hits, while walking three and striking out fourteen batters.

The Merchants take the weekend off and return to the field next Wednesday to take on the Jamestown Elks. First pitch schedule for 7:00 PM at No Name Field. Fans, please remember to show up early next week as the first ten fans in attendance will receive a piece of elk jerky courtesy of Miller Lite.
