Kingsville Knights Rookie Travel Team Takes 2nd Place in Port Lambton

The Kingsville knights rookie travel team took to the road to play a tournament this past weekend in port lambton. Day 1 had the boys lined up with a familiar foe from Amherstburg. Amherstburg came out with an early lead in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead on sloppy defence. But the knights were quick to rally back with 7 runs in the bottom of the inning backed by RBI’s by Keaton Morphet and Dylan Toupin. Beckett Jancevski hit a 2 run double followed by a 3 run bomb by Ryan Flanagan. Two strong innings in the 6th and 7th proved to be too much for Amherstburg and the knights pulled out the victory with a 24-15 win.

Day 2 started early with a solid test for the boys playing a very strong team from kincardine. The boys gloves seemed to have slept in and errors cost them 7 runs against in the first inning. The boy chipped away in the bottom half with a 3 run home run from Beckham Hunter. Although the boys continued to pick away at the early lead, the 7 runs in the first proved to be too much. The game finished with a 17-15 loss. Beckham Hunter led the knights with 2 home runs and 4 RBI’s. Cole Coristine helped out with a home run of his own and 3 RBI’s in the losing cause.

The afternoon game became a huge game for the boys playing the home squad Port Lambton Pirates. The defence came alive and the bats turned up the heat and was too much for the host team. A balanced attack from top to the bottom of the line up allowed the knights to finish the Pirates in a mercy after 5 innings. Beckham Hunter again led the knights with a home run and a single with 4 RBI’s, as well Evan Baker added to the lop sided affair with 2 more hits and 2 RBI’s. On to the Semi Finals!!!!

Sunday baseball was what the boys came for and it showed that they belonged there. Unfortunately for the host team, they would have to play a hot knights team again. After very little action in the first inning, both teams shared a 7 run inning. Port Lambton was not going to go away quietly. Jasper Dunford led the inning with a solid double and the boys that followed cane through with a great rally. Mac pucovsky, Beckett Jancevski, Reggie Bradbury, Keaton Morphet, Colby Snoei, Vittorio Ruggirello, and Cole Coristine all followed the lead with hits of their own and was finished off by Evan Baker’s 2 run double. A good response to the Pirates 7 run inning. A 6 run 6th finished them off with a 3 run home run from Cole Coristine and a 2 run triple from Beckham Hunter. OFF TO THE FINAL!!!!

The championship game had the knights going against the Cardinals from Kincardine in a rematch from Saturday. The boys knew the defence in the field would have to be better if they had any chance at a victory. Stellar plays from Beckham Hunter and Vittorio Ruggirello kept the game within reach leaving the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning. Jasper Dunford led off the top of the second with a solo home run to put the knights on the board and cut the Cardinals lead in half 2-1. The Cardinals scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 4-1 lead. More great team defence kept the knights with in reach but the Cardinals lead off hitter surprised the knights and split the outfielders for a 2 run home run and a 6-1 lead. The knights rallied in the top of the 6. Evan Baker led the inning with a solid single and Beckham Hunter hit a triple to get the boys rolling. Jasper Dunford stepped to the plate with 2 out and hit his second home run of the game to cut the deficit to 6-4. A 1-2-3 bottom of the 6th had the boys excited and ready to attack. A solid single by Beckett Jancevski was quickly followed by another by Reggie Bradbury. A questionable call cost our lead runner to be out at second on a close play. From there the boys just ran out of time. 6-4 loss and the boys head home with second place.

A great weekend was had by everyone, and we are extremely proud of the way our boys represented Kingsville. Thank you to all the parents and look forward to competing the rest of the season.
