LAPWAI, ID – A complete 180, that’s what’s happening to the Lapwai football team since the start of the season.

After losing Oakley by 40 points in week one, the Wildcats have turned things around.

Lead by one of the seniors, Payton Sobotta.

Going into last week’s game against Genesee, he knew starting league play would be different.

“That whole day, I was just getting myself mentally prepared to play that game,” Sobotta said. “Coming into it, we needed to catch that dub. So, I just had to get my mind right.”

And it seemed like his mind was in the right place.

Against Genesee, Sobotta threw three touchdowns and even ran for one as part of a 68-20 Wildcat victory.

The Cats are 1-0 in league play so far.

This week, they’ll take on the Clearwater Valley Rams.

“Coming in they’re undefeated and they have the same guys from last year. So, it should be a good game.”

Playing on two state championship basketball teams, there’s still one more title that Lapwai can’t seem to tackle.

Lapwai hasn't won a football title in over 35 years,” Sobotta said. “It'll be a great feeling because, that's a long time ago That'll be a great feeling to bring a title back to this city."
