COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS
Vidor Youth Softball recognizes the importance of maintaining a safe and compliant environment for our players at VYSA. It is our shared responsibility—both VYSA and our coaching staff—to ensure that only individuals who have been properly vetted (including Background Check, ACE Certification, and SafeSport Training) are permitted on the fields or in the dugouts with our girls. This policy is in place to safeguard our athletes and must be upheld at all times. Please help us enforce this standard not only at our home fields, but also during scrimmages, tournaments, and games at other venues. If you plan to have additional coaching personnel beyond your allotted staff, those individuals must also be fully vetted. Their certification documents must be submitted to the league email prior to participation. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for our players.
- All coaches and team moms (anyone in the dugout or on the field other than the players) must complete:
- Coaches Application (Click Here)
- Compliance through USA Softball Of Texas (Click Here)
- Background Check (NCSI)
- Safesport
- ACE Education
- This Compliance Guide will assist with all three steps listed above
NEW TO VYSA?
- Try-outs will be required for all new players and any players not on a core team. A draft will take place (date TBD) for player and team selection. Parents will be contacted the following week by their players head coach with date and time for the coaches/team meeting.
- All players will have to participate in a fundraiser. Fundraiser goals and details will be provided during the coaches/team meeting.
- Each players parent and/or guardian will be required to work the concession stands. Details to be provided during the coaches/team meetiing.
- Practices will likely start at the beginning of February and tournament weekends will most likely start mid February and finish in late May.
- Schedule will be determined at the district meeting and coaches will let their team know at the coaches/team meeting.
- Most teams will try to hold (2) practices a week. The coaches will request practice dates every Sunday evening and will likely receive a practice schedule Sunday night. Once they receive the practice schedule from VYSA, they will communicate the teams schedule to all parents.
- Games consist of Double Elimination Tournaments played on the weekends and some league games played during the week. The tournament schedule will be distributed at the coaches/team meeting.
- Larger tournaments will require games to played on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays occasionally. These dates are set by whomever is hosting the tournament.
- Players will be expected to travel for both tournament and league games depending on the location (Orange, Vidor, Port Neches, Nederland, and Winnie)Tournament fees, set by the district, are not included in registration fees and are the responsibility of each team to pay for each tournament. Typically each player is responsible for $12-$15, depending on the number of kids on their team. These fees are collected by the coaches the week prior to the weekend of the tournament.
- The VYSA Board will hold occasional workdays to maintain the ballpark and work on projects. All parents are welcome, and any help would be appreciated. We will try to communicate these days through our Facebook page. The VYSA board will also hold a work evening to prep all fields the Friday evening before every hosted tournament. Please feel free to come lend a helping hand, if possible, any of these evenings. All help is very much appreciated.
