End of Era, Cutters 2018 Season Ends In Disappointment!!

August 23, 2018

Cutters 2018 Season looked promising on paper, on paper! loaded with pitching and young talent, anything less than a championship would be a disappointment..

Injuries, No-shows, No enthusiasm and lack of hitting contributed to an early end to what looked to be a championship run..

Next up for the Cutters, RETIREMENT, end of an era.. The team will be folding and players will be retiring, starting their own teams or moving to different teams..

Stay tuned for updates as I will continue to monitor the Rockledge Cubs, Red Stockings and Big League Cutters homepages.

Thank you to Troy Cox and Dave Darrah for managing the Space Coast League over the years.. Also a big shout out to all my loyal teammates for the fun times and making my job of managing the team easier..

We Play Hardball

Ernie Bianco

Cutters end Regular season with Win, Beat Astros 8-6

June 4, 2015

Cutters are going into the playoffs on a winning note, beating the Astros 8-6 on Thursday night in Viera.

Cole Weaver called up from the Florida Penal League to pitch the regular season final, lasting one inning with a sore shoulder. Jim Meyer came on in relief, pitching six innings, scattering ten hits and 4-runs (3-earned). Meyer also helped himself at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and driving in two-runs as well.

Also, chipping in at the plate was Captain Fleet (Chad Van Fleet) with two hits and driving in a run. Several Cutters got into the act throughout the game, which is a positve sign going into the playoffs after struggling most of the year offensively.

NEXT UP PLAYOFFS: Sunday vs Canes at Viera @ 10;00.

Cutters Break Losing Streak, Beat Maniacs 12-4

May 27, 2015

Cutters put together a complete game last night in BCBL action with a 12-4 win over the Mayham Maniacs.

Tony Burnham made the Trek over from Orlando and tossed a five inning 3-hit win on the mound for the Cutters. Rich Hogarth pitched the sixth & the Seventh inning to get ready for the playoffs which start next Tuesday (6/2).

Nate Terryn found his stroke going 3 for 4 (two doubles) and 4 RBI's. Also, Chipping in at the plate and starting to heat up was Brent Marmom. Marmon went 3 for 4 with a triple while driving in two-runs.

All this before and after the sparks flew when Cutters Jeff Steele was tossed from the game for arguing Balls & Strikes. It seem to fire-up the Cutters which were in need of a spark as of late.

The Cutters hope this win would catapult them into the playoffs, locking up the 4th seed & a first round game vs the Cocoa Canes.

Next Game: vs Astros Tuesday (5/31) at Viera @ 10:00.

Cutters Lose Heartbreaker to Maniacs 5-4

May 22, 2015

Cutters lose another close one 5-4 and the losing streak continues at four games.

With the Mayham Maniacs up going into the bottom of the 5th inning 1-0, the Cutters scored to tie the game at 1-1 on a RBI single by BobO Oliveira. Brent Marmon then came to the plate with two outs and bases loaded. Marmon drilled a 3-Run double into leftfield to put the Cutters up 4-1.

Things looked to be going the Cutters way on this night till the top of the 7th inning. The Maniacs started the inning with a walk and a base hit. Eric Chaffiot who pitched a great game was removed for the hard throwing Marmon. Marmon gave up an infield hit on the first batter and then a walk to the second batter. With the score now 4-3 and runners on 2nd & 3rd base. The ump called a baulk for No apparent reason, an explanation wasn’t given properly and the Cutters started chirping from the dugout. Marmon struck out the next two batters and the next batter hit a double to put the maniacs up 5-4.

The Cutters went down in order, in the bottom of the 7th to end the game.

Next Game: Tuesday May 26th at Viera @ 7:15

Cutters Bats Disappear AGAIN in Extra Inning 7-3 Loss!

May 5, 2015

Cutters lose tough game in extra inning 7-3. Brian Anderson pitched 4.1 strong innings before being ejected for hitting his third batter of the game. Eric Chaffiot entered the game and pitched great till he ran out of steam in the 8th inning giving up four runs. The Cutters had their chances, but left men on base multiple times late in the game.

Kevin Scauzillo seems to have found his stroke going 2 for 3 with a lead-off double off the top of the leftfield fence to start the game. But after scoring 2-runs in the first, the Cutters offense only managed one more run in the fourth inning. When guys miss games and/or go days without seeing live pitching, it will take it's toll on your offense and team rhythm said manager Ernie Bianco.

Next up: Tuesday 05/12 vs Maniacs at Viera @ 7:15.

Jeff Steele and Eric Chaffiot combine a seven inning effort on the mound to lead the Cutters the their fouth straight win. Kevin Scauzillo and Tim "Petro" Petrillo led the offense combining for 5 hits in the 4-2 win.

Cutters 2014 Space Coast Hobbs League Champions!

June 24, 2014

The Big League Eatery Cutters are the Brevard County Baseball League Champions beating the Space Coast Astros 3-0 in the championship game on Tuesday night at Flutie Field in Melbourne Beach, FL.

The Cutters pitching, defense & timely hitting were keys all season and on this night it was no different.. Tony Burnham took the mound for the Cutters, with team MVP Rich Hogarth waiting in the wings if a game #2 was needed.. All Burnham did was go out and throw a complete game 3-hit shutout and give the Cutters their first League Championship.

The Cutters only managed five hits, but made the most of it. Ernie Bianco who caught fire and led the team with six RBI's in the playoffs started the game off with a single. League MVP Kevin Scauzillo then ran for Bianco scoring the only run of the game till the fourth inning. With the score 1-0 in the bottom of the forth. Tim Springstroh who missed the season before, due to an ankle injury he suffered two seasons ago step to the plate with one man on base. Springstroh then blasted a two-run home run to push the lead to 3-0.

Burnham ran into trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning loading the bases with No outs. Burnham got a pop up for the first out, then a heads up play by first baseman Brian Donlon on a hard line-drive he caught then tagged first for a double play to end the inning. Burnham then shut the door the rest of the way to preserve the win.

The defense played a huge part in this championship, which was led by shortstop Brent "your in the Big Leagues now" Marmon, catcher Chad Van Fleet and Jim Meyer..

A total "TEAM" effort, Congratulations Cutters 2014 BCBL Hobbs Champions!!!!

Cutters Beat Orioles 6-2, Reach Championship Game

June 17, 2014

The Big League (eatery) Cutters made an improbable run last year coming up short in the Championship game, losing to the Melbourne Beach Orioles 6-2. It also marked the forth loss in in a row against the Orioles and that streak continued this season, losing twice to Melbourne Beach 4-0 and a recent 2-0 loss in 9 innings.

A first inning controversial call at third base when Kevin Scauzillo was called out, which looked like Orioles third baseman Bill Fluite obstructed Scauzillo's path to home plate and it looked like the bad luck would continue. But this night would be different!

Nonetheless, the Cutters battled back scoring four runs in the top of the 5th inning. The bottom of the order got things started again with a lead off single by Mark Cronan. Brian Donlon hit a hard ground ball at 2nd base which was mishandled and with runners at 1st & 2nd base. The Captain Chad Van Fleet laid down a bunt which Orioles pitcher Brian Wisnom threw into left field to score a run. with the score tied 2-2. Ernie Bianco again came up big with a go ahead 2-run double in the leftfield gap to put the Cutters up 4-2.

After a scoreless 6th inning, the Cutters went to work again. With two men on and one out, BobO Oliveira crushed a 2-run double to righrfield to add to the Cutters lead (6-2) going into the bottom of the 7th inning. This would be all the Cutters ace Rich Hogarth would need to seal his second win of the playoffs and push his season record to 6-2.

The Cutters defense was outstanding again, leading the way was rookie shortstop Brent "your in the big leagues now" Marmon who had another outstanding defensive game and a 2 for 4 (1 rbi) performance at the plate as well.

Next up: The Championship Game Cutters vs Astros on Sunday 6/22/14 @ 10:00 at Viera.

Cutters run-rule Canes in 2nd rd Playoff game 10-0

June 10, 2014

Cutters ace pitcher Rich Hogarth pitched another masterfull game to improve his record on the year to 5-2.

The Cutters offense went to work in the 2nd inning with two outs, Tim Petrillo walked, then the hot hitting Mark Cronan hit a double in the rightfield gap to score Petrillo to make it 1-0. Then Brian Donlon reached on an error, Chad Van Fleet walked & Kevin Scauzillo walked with the bases loaded to score another run to make it 2-0. Then Ernie Bianco broke the game open with a 3-run double in the right-centerfield gap to put the Cutters up 5-0.

The bottom of the order has been a nightmare for most teams this season and nothing changed in this game. In the forth inning, Cronan, Donlon & Fleet singled. Cronan scored on a bases loaded fielder's choice by scauzillo. Again with two outs, Bianco drove in another run with his second hit of the  game putting the Cutters up 7-0.

The Cutters drop the hammer in the bottom of the 5th inning with the Canes pitching faultering giving up a single to Brent Marmon, then loading the bases. Petrillo walked to bring a run in and Mark Cronan singled in another run to go 3 for 3 on the night and made the score 9-0. With the bases loaded Brian Donlon hit a deep fly ball to the gap to end the game on a run-rule walk off single and the 2nd time in as many game Donlon was a part of a walk-off win.

Next up: Cutters play the Melbounre Beach Orioles who have had the Cutters number last two seasons, Thursday night @ 7:15 at TBA in the Winners bracket final.

Cutters beat Brevard Team Sports 8-7 in 9 inning 1st Rd Playoff game

June 8, 2014

Cutters defense had been solid all season, but six errors almost sent them into the losers bracket early in the playoffs.

The Cutters 1 thru 4 batters normally solid went 0 for 12 while the middle and the end of the line-up picked them up. Nate Terryn and Tim Petrillo led the way going a combined 4 for 8 and 6 rbi's to lift the Cutters over Brevard Team Sports 8-7 in extra innings (9) in the opening round of the Roy Hobbs Space Coast League Playoffs.

Petrillo came thru early with a single to drive in 2 runs in the 4th inning putting the Cutters in the lead 2-1. But Team Sports put 3 runs on the board in the top of the 5th inning to regain the lead 4-2. Team Sports came to play putting runs on the board early. after being run-ruled by the Cutters twice during their regular season match-ups. Their ace Eric Chaffiot seemed to be cruising until the bottom of the 5th inning when a hit and walks put in him trouble with Nate Terryn coming to the plate. Terryn took Chaffiot deep into the count before driving a shot to center field for a huge double driving in 3 runs and putting the Cutters back on top 7-4.

The Cutters still up 7-4 going into the bottom of the 7th inning blew a three run lead and Team Sports sent the game into extra innings forcing the the Cutters ace Rich Hogarth into the game to restore order on the mound. with the game tied in the bottom of the 9th inning, Brian Donlon singled to start the inning off and went to second on a pass ball. Captain Chad Van Fleet then walked after Chris Edwards struck out. with runners on 1st & 2nd, Kevin Scauzillo hit a deep fly ball to centerfield, Brian Donlon & Chad Van Fleet tagged up (Donlon going to 3b). Team Sports second baseman Chaffiot tried to flip the ball to secong base, throwing by the shortstop Mark May and Donlon scored the walk-off winning run to end the game 8-7.

Next Up: 2nd round game, Canes vs Cutters at Viera West @ 7:30 on Tuesday (6/10).
