Lower seeds sweep Opening day action
The opening night of the BYBL playoffs saw all four lower seeds win and advance to the second round.
Teaneck Charter boys held on to beat South Hackensack 52-49. South Hackensack missed 24 foul shots to cost themselves the game. The Teaneck Charter boys will now face Dumont Selzer Friday night at 6:45.
The Little Ferry girls rallied from 13 down to force overtime and pulled off the win over South Hackensack to advance to quarterfinals vs Teaneck Charter girls at 8:00
The BASCS girls led wire to wire and defeated the East Rutherford girls to advance to face Dumont Honiss on Friday at 5:15.
The East Rutherford boys played solid defense all night and stymied the BASCS offense and advanced to Friday quaterfinal at 4:15 vs Little Ferry.

After the completion of league play on Tuesday, the final seedings for the playoffs have been set. Here are the final standings as we head into the BYBL playoffs on February 7th.

Regular season coming to a close
As the regular season winds down, teams are mostly in the independent game part of their schedules. Teams are meeting for the second time and getting ready for the release of the BYBL Playoff Bracket.
The Maywood boys and girls have each clinched the #1 seed in their bracket. The Dumont Selzer girls are the 2 seed and the winner of this week's Honiss/Little Ferry game will be the #2 boys seed.
The Playoffs begin on Thursday February 7th with 5 vs 8 and 6 vs 7 opening round games.

Results from Thursday January 10th
Maywood sweeps double header at East Rutherford-
The Maywood Hawks swept a double header at East Rutherford in two hard fought games. The boys game was close throughout until the Hawks pulled away in the 4th quarter. The Maywood boys are now 4-0 in league play and the wildcats fall to 2-4 in BYBL action. The Maywood girls moved to 4-0 in league play and East Rutherford fell to 2-4 in the girls division.
The Teaneck Charter Tornadoes sweep DH over Elisabeth Morrow- The Teaneck Charter boys won 41-35 over Elisabeth Morrow while the Teaneck Charter girls won 18-17. Both games were non league games.

The Maywood boys and girls each improved to 2-0 in league play with a home sweep of Teaneck Charter. Teaneck boys fall to 0-4 in league play and the Tornado girls fall to 3-1.
BYBL action continues for each team this week.
Results from Thursday January 3rd
Dumont Selzer opened the New Year with a double header sweep over Alpine. Both sharks teams improved to 3-0 overall.
On the other side of Dumont, the Honiss Hawks boys and girls both improved to 2-0 overall with a DH sweep of Fairview.
In Maywood, the Englewood boys beat the Maywood boys 52-42 and the Maywood girls won easily over the Englewood girls. The Maywood boys sit with an overall record of 5-2 and the girls are 6-1.
In BYBL league play the Teaneck Charter girls moved to 2-0 in league with a big win at Little Ferry. The Little Ferry girls fell to 0-3 in BYBL play. The Little Ferry boys moved to 2-1 in league play after a 14 point win over the Teaneck Charter boys. Teaneck Charter is now 0-2 in the BYBL.
South Hackensack sweeps home DH vs BASCS
Another day of competitive BYBL basketball came to South Hackensack on Wednesday as the South Hackensack girls beat BASCS 19-16 and the Bulldog boys won 26-13. South Hackensack girls are now 2-1 in league play as the yellow jackets fall to 0-2. The SH boys improve to 1-2 in league as BASCS falls to 1-1.
South Hackensack splits DH at Dwight Englewood
The South Hackensack girls lost to Dwight Englewood on Tuesday and that was followed up with the South Hackensack boys defeating Dwight (B) 42-29. South Hackensack returns to action with a league home DH vs BASCS on Wednesday.
Recap of games from a busy first full week of BYBL action
It was a fun busy week in the BYBL as most teams started league play and some teams challenged themselves with hard out of league power houses.
In the boys division:
East Rutherford made up for two close losses to Little Ferry and BASCS with a win at South Hackensack in another close game. ER improved to 1-2 in league play. BASCS and Little Ferry are both 1-0 in league play. South Hackensack fell to 0-2 in league play.
Dumont Selzer and South Hackensack battled it out with Selzer eventually pulling away at the end in another game that was fun and competitive. Dumont is 1-0 in league play.
Maywood lost at home to Upper Saddle River as they continue to challenge themselves by playing the best teams in Bergen County. Maywood fell to 3-1 overall and has yet to begin league play.
Teaneck lost their season opener 43-39 to Emerson as they regroup after losing several solid players to graduation.
in the girls division:
The East Rutherford girls started the season 2-1 in league play as they defeated BASCS and Little Ferry before losing in South Hackensack. BASCS and Little Ferry are both 0-1 in league play and South Hackensack is 1-1.
Dumont Selzer beat the South Hackensack girls and improved to 1-0 in league play.
Maywood girls lost at home to Upper Saddle River in a tough Bergen County match up and fell to 3-1 overall.
The Selzer sharks take a bite out of Alpine
The weather was cold but the Sharks were circling in the water and the boys and girls each won their games against the Rams of Alpine. Although Alpine is no longer in the league it is good to see them still playing teams from the BYBL.
The Sharks return to action next week as they travel to South Hackensack for a doubleheader against the Bulldogs to kick off their BYBL schedules.
ER and BASCS split their season opening games
Two nail biters got the season off and running for the Wildcats of East Rutherford and the Yellow Jackets of BASCS. The BASCS boys beat ER 21-19 and the ER girls beat the BASCS girls 16-14. These pair of 2 point games show how competitive the league is this year and balanced the standings could turn out. Both teams return to action next week.
Little Ferry sweeps South Hackensack in Third place games
In the 3rd place games of the Little Ferry Tournament, host Little Ferry hit a buzzer beater to beat the South Hackensack girls 22-21 in overtime. The Little Ferry boys played solid defense keeping the Bulldogs in check with a 29-21 win to take 3rd place in the tournament.
Both teams open up BYBL play next week.
Maywood boys and girls win Little Ferry Tournament
The Boys and Girls of Maywood took home the Little Ferry Tournament by combining to go 6-0 vs Little Ferry, South Hackensack and Ridgefield Park. Congratulations to the Hawks.
Maywood sweeps South Hackensack and Little Ferry drops two to Ridgefield Park
The Little Ferry Holiday Tournament got off to an entertaining start Tuesday night as Maywood battled South Hackensack and Little Ferry matched up with Ridgefield Park. The games were fun and exciting as Maywood took both from the Bulldogs and Little Ferry fought hard and came up short vs RP.
Wednesday's action will see South Hackensack take on RP in the early Double header with Maywood and Little Ferry going at it in the night cap.

South Hackensack opens season with wins over Alpine
The season began on Wednesday with a Double Header in South Hackensack as the Bulldogs and Rams squared off. The South Hackensack boys won 47-26 and the South Hackensack girls came away with a 21-12 win.
Maywood, Little Ferry and South Hackensack all will participate in the Little Ferry Holiday Tournament on December 4-5-6 at Memorial School in Little Ferry.
