Season Wrap Up and Movie Night Info
It was a great season guys. Thank you for all your hard work, effort and commitment,
Our season wrap up and uniform return night is Monday, February 24 from 6-8 pm. Please be sure to bring your cleaned uniform with you! I will also be reviewing your goal cards with you individually. Wear your sneakers because I'm sure Coach P and Coach A will be running some game with you!
Finally, on Wednesday, March 4 from 6-8 pm we will be having a team movie night. As we did two years ago, we will also invite the girls team to attend. This year we will be watching the 50 minute film, "The First Day". It is the follow up to the Chris Herren documentary, "Unguarded". Herren was a Fall River high school basketball star who also played at Boston College and later with the Celtics. March 2 to the 7th is Wellness Week. This film is appropriate and meaningful to this week. The discussion that follows will be led by our own Coach Glen. Some of you may remember him from a practice earlier in the season when he worked with some of our big guys on their low post footwork. Coach Glen has done some amazing things in the past few years that I'll tell you more about on movie night. More info will be sent out in an email soon and I'll ask you to RSVP.
See you all at our wrap up session on the 24th.

Team Movie Night
We will be having team movie night on Monday, March 12 from 6-8pm in the gym. The movie will be Unguarded. It's an ESPN documentary about a local "can't miss" basketball superstar whose career and life was derailed due to drug addiction. The movie was recently shown in my granddaughters 8th grade health class in Peabody. Chris Herren now speaks to middle and high school students across the country. The movie lasts about an hour and will be followed with a short discussion period. Parents are welcome to attend. I truly believe that the documentary provides an interesting, relevant and valuable message. Please let me know by email if your son will or won't be able to attend. Members of the girls team will also be invited to attend. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

This really happened at practice Thursday night!
Cheverus Boys Basketball Support Project Purple
The 7th and 8th Grade Boys Basketball team will be showing their support of Project Purple by wearing purple laces on their sneakers this year. Former Boston Celtic, Chris Herren launched Project Purple to bring awareness to the dangers of substance abuse. To find out more about Project Purple, you can find a link from our links page to the left.
Chris Herren Speaks at Malden High School
Coach Glen, Michaela and Nate with Chris Herren after he shared his powerful message at Malden High School today. We had a nice turnout from the boys basketball team to hear Chris speak. Thanks Francis, Lucas, Nate, Alphonse, Colin, Ade and Sean for attending.
Danny Ainge Drops In To Cardinal Scrimmage
Christmas came early for the Cheverus Cardinals as the boys were treated to a once in a lifetime opportunity when Danny Ainge dropped by the gym to watch his son play in a scheduled scrimmage with Coach Benzan's brother's team from Wellesley. When the referee's got tied up in holiday traffic, Ainge borrowed a whistle and officiated nearly the first half of the game.
While it was a somewhat lopsided contest, the boys seemed thrilled just to show their stuff to the President of Basketball Operations for the Boston Celtics. After the boys settled in from some first quarter jitters, much offensive and defensive progress seems to have been made. We look forward to a successful second half.
