CMU's Rally Against Breast Cancer Volleyball Tournament

September 15, 2013

CMU's Rally Against Breast Cancer Volleyball Tournament will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the Student Activity Center (SAC) on the campus of Central Michigan University. It is a volleyball tournament held to support the Angel Wings Fund of Mt. Pleasant. If you have any questions about the tournament, please call or text (248)752-8185.

Problem

Breast Cancer can affect families in countless ways whether it is emotionally or financially. One area that is sometimes over looked is the children that are involved. Our problem is that affect a parent is lost to breast cancer, financially it is hard to still afford an education. This problem is being met head on by The Angel Wings Fund. Angel Wings was founded by Keshia Brown, a cancer survivor who saw the need for support by children of those with cancer. Mrs. Brown’s vision came about when she was fighting her battle with cancer and was concern with the future of her daughter. Thus, Angel Wings was born. Angel Wings was founded in 2007 to raise money in forms of a college scholarship fund for children that have lost a parent to breast cancer. Since 2007, Angel Wings has raised over $20,000 through their efforts. This is a small problem that is sometimes over looked but as Angel Wings as found is a concern for many.

Solution

Our solution is to raise money for The Angel Wings Fund using two vehicles, our 6 on 6-volleyball tournament; Rally Against Breast Cancer, and the sales of a Angel Wings/Rally Against Breast Cancer t-shirt. Rally Against Breast Cancer is a one-day indoor volleyball tournament consisting of pool play opening rounds along with a 16-team winners bracket. Teams will have the opportunity to play a minimum of three pool play games and with winners of each pool playing for the title of Rally Against Cancer champions. In conjunction with the Rally Against Breast Cancer tournament, t-shirts will be sold to support and spread awareness of Angel Wings. Our solution will not only raise money for Angel Wings Fund, but will be a fun way to use sport in order to support a ever growing problem. The cost to enter the tournament is a $20 donation to The Angel Wings Fund per person. Players can sign up as a team or as a "Free Agent" and get placed on a team with other "Free Agents." Players can sign up with friends if they do not have enough players to form a team and get placed on a team with other players looking for a team.
