Where Dreams Begin!
Dear CYA families,
We hope you are all well and safe during this unprecedented time in our lives. Covid-19 has changed the world, and everyone has felt the effects of it. I wanted to take a moment to reach out to you, as the board and I have had several difficult decisions to make over the past few months. As most in the community are aware, we all volunteer our time here at CYA to help give the children of this community the best possible environment to learn the sport of Baseball and Softball. That includes and is driven by a safety first attitude. I wanted to just put out a short memo to discuss what has been going on and some plans we have for the near future.
First, we have had many questions about re-opening, not opening, re-closing, etc… Let me set the record straight. I would like to start by saying this was not a School District decision, or a Board of Ed decision, this was a CYA Board Decision. We did start to plan to reopen as mandated by the state for moderate risk sports on 7/6/2020. As our board has worked towards getting all requirements and safety measures in place, it became apparent we still had some work to do to ensure the safety of our community youth. That said, we did pause our re-opening and decided we will take the time to make sure we have all, or as many measures as possible, in place. We all want the kids to return to sports, it’s why we have the volunteer base we do. We all feel that CYA serves the community in many ways, and in the current times it is a desperately needed retreat. That said, we were not going to put anything before the safety of the kids. We are currently working on finalizing the documentation needed to have a solid safety plan set forth including making sure the facilities are up to par and ready to go. We are hoping to have everything in place in the next week or two, and my board is working hard to get this done. Many things are prepared already, but there is still more to do.
Once we do open up, we expect a slow return to play, such as practices, scrimmages, and some games. We will make sure we can use the facility and keep the kids as safe as possible. Once we feel we have a good grasp on managing the space with what we are doing, we will look to open up to full use and capacity again. We really want to see the great sports we play come back to our fields and give people a great reason to get out, exercise, and enjoy the sport they love. All of this said, this re-opening and gradual return to full play will be decided by many of you as we go forward. There will be many rules and regulations we need to follow. We will need your help and support to follow these rules. Of course, and I do not believe this will happen at CYA, if we can not follow the rules, it will wind up setting us back.
In addition to this, we understand that the Spring in house season was lost due to this terrible virus, however, we want to look forward. CYA is planning at this time to have a full Fall Season for in house play. We know that doesn’t make up for time lost, but we would like to build on the future.
In addition to that, once we have our complex up and running, I will be reaching out to the other local organizations to see how we could help. This is our community, and all the kids are part of our Connetquot Family.
I hope this helps answer some of the many questions out there. I offer some advice to those who are glued to their computer or mobile device, stay away from social media and take this opportunity to get out there and have a catch with your kid. Let them throw the ball around. We are getting close to getting back to play. I look forward to seeing you all around the complex soon.
Best regards from the CYA Board,
