2018 Lessons Schedule
2018 Junior Progressive Lessons Program
Progressive Tennis uses a system of modified courts, racquets and balls scaled to maximize learning for different levels and/or age groups. Just like many other sports (e.g. Mini-soccer, T-Ball, etc.), scaling the game down to the size of the child speeds up the learning process and make the game more fun. All our lessons use the “Progressive Tennis” system of modified courts and balls designed for the age and/or skill level of the players. Scale appropriate learning is used by many other sports (e.g. T-Ball, Mini-soccer, etc.). Tennis is learned faster and easier through this system.
RED BALL LEVEL 1 (6-8 yrs) This program introduces the foundational skills of tennis with an oversized low compression ball on a smaller court. Players learn basic rally, serve and net play skills along with activities that build tennis specific coordination. Rules of play and “I am a Good Sport” behaviours are also introduced.
RED BALL LEVEL 2 (6-8yrs) This program is for participants who have completed a minimum of two RED BALL LEVEL 1 sessions. Students should be able to demonstrate the following learned in LEVEL 1: forehand, backhand and volley grip, ready position, side shuffle/karaoke around the court, 20 juggles in a row with a bounce, forehand/backhand shadow swing with follow-through over shoulder, and good sportsmanship.
ORANGE BALL LEVEL 1 (9-12 yrs) Orange ball tennis is played on a ¾ size court with a low-compression ball. This program builds on the fundamentals and skills players learned in red ball. Players learn how to serve, rally, score and play at the net. “I am a Good Sport” behaviours are reinforced.
ORANGE BALL LEVEL 2 (9-12 yrs) This follow-up to orange ball Level 1 is on a ¾ size court with a low-compression ball. Players should have a minimum of 2 orange ball level 1 sessions which gives the necessary fundamentals to be successful in the level 2 program. Students in level 2 should be able to demonstrate the following: palm up/palm down juggles (30 times in a row), karaoke/side shuffle around the court, forehand/backhand stroke with recovery, basic knowledge of rules including keeping score, rally with a partner (10 times/row without error), being able to make 5 out of 10 serves from the service line.
GREEN BALL LEVEL 1 (13-15 yrs) The main focus in green ball level 1 is for players to learn how to rally, serve, and keep score. Participants will learn how to play both singles and doubles on a regulation sized court with a low-compression transition ball. Lessons take players through a progression of skill building activities which attributes to control and consistency.
GREEN BALL LEVEL 2 (13-15 yrs) This class is geared for students with previous tennis training experience. Players in this class should be able to do the following: maintain a rally with control (minimum 10 balls in a row on both forehand and backhand), control/direction of the ball, good knowledge of court coverage in both singles/doubles format, serve with proper grip, juggles (100X/row without error). A green dot lower compressed ball is used in this class.

2018 Adult Lessons Program
Beginner group lessons are geared for players who have never had a formal lesson and are fairly new to the game. Players will learn technical fundamentals with the goal being able to maintain a rally with control. Players will learn basic court positioning for both singles and doubles and how to keep score.
Beginner Level 2 *NEW*
This year we are pleased to offer lessons to players who have previously taken beginner lessons but are not yet at the intermediate level. These lessons will build on skills and fundamentals previously learned in the beginner class. Participants in beginner 2 should be able to demonstrate the forehand/backhand ground stroke and volley with correct grip, service with correct grip and able to maintain a short rally from service line to service line.
Intermediate group lessons are for players who have taken some type of formal lessons in the past and are able to maintain a rally with minimal errors. These lessons will build on the basic fundamentals and players will learn how to apply tactical strategies during game play.
Advanced group lessons are for players who possess a solid tennis foundation and have taken formal lessons in the past. Players at this level should have experience playing in either a high-level house league or on an Intercounty tennis team. Advanced tactics will be applied to these lessons and players will learn how to take their game to the next level.

About Our Club
Established in 1984, the East Gwillimbury Tennis Club (EGTC) is an outdoor, community-based summer tennis club, for all ages and abilities. Situated in the heart of Holland Landing, our club is proudly volunteer run in stewardship with the Town of East Gwillimbury and open to members from the communities of Holland Landing, Sharon, Mount Albert, Georgina and surrounding areas. Our season runs from May to September and features three hard courts with lights, plenty of parking, an adjacent community centre, library and splash pad for the kids.
Our club caters to players who are looking for organized tennis programs including recreational and competitive doubles, as well as lessons and clinics for all ages and skill levels. For those new to the game, start with our beginner group lessons and weekly clinics, where you can play at your pace and meet new friends. Before you know it, you will be asking yourself why you waited so long to play!
I would like to remind everyone that a successful tennis season relies on the voluntary assistance of many people, not just those listed on the Executive Committee. So please take a moment when completing the online registration to indicate your willingness to volunteer - perhaps helping with an event, captaining a team, or club sponsorship. Together, we can accomplish great things!
Looking forward to another great season of tennis! See you on the courts!
