Practice starts tomorrow!
5:30pm-7:00pm in the FHS Mat Room
Wear shorts, t-shirt, and wrestling shoes if you have them. If you do not, please wear clean socks! Don't forget your water bottle!
We will have our tote of shoes available to check out a pair. We ask for a $10 deposit.
Practices this season will be Mondays and Thursdays 5:30-7:00.
We will have open practices Fridays- this is for wrestlers who want to learn more. There will be a piece of paper available Mondays for wrestlers to fill out and return Thursday to Coach. This is your ticket to practice Friday. Wrestlers will need to state what they want to work on at Friday's practice. Coach will talk more about this the 2nd week of practice.
Calendars will be handed out on Monday of practice schedule and tournament schedule. We will also have singlet order information, fan wear and directions on how to register for a tournament.
We are excited to see you all!
Remember to register at www.ferndaleforcewrestling.org We need your registration to be able to get your USA Card.
If your wrestler is unsure about the season, they are welcome to try it out the first week for only $15 (the cost of the USA Card). Please register your wrestler and then click pay in person. Email us at email@example.com to let us know that your wrestler is trying it for the first week only.
Our Folkstyle Season starts November 4th! We are changing our registration process a bit this year. Your $100 registration fee will now include the $15 USA Wrestling Insurance card. The club will purchase this for your wrestler. This card will cover your wrestler for all USA tournaments up until the State Tournament. If your wrestler decides to continue to state or our freestyle/greco season, we will help you update the card to the full $45 card.
We will once again have all wrestlers practicing first hour, and the more advanced wrestlers staying for the second hour. There will be an outline given out the first week of practice of moves needing to know/execute in order to stay for second hour. Wrestlers should approach Coach Gandy before or after practice to set up a time to review moves and talk about staying for second hour.
Tournament schedule will be posted before the first week of practices. Tournaments do have a cost, usually $20-$25 a piece, if you pre-register. The cost goes up if you register the morning of. There is pre-payment on most tournaments, so if you pre-register and are unable to make it, there is no penalty. Tournaments are held either Saturday or Sunday depending on the location. We will have a parent meeting prior to the first tournament to walk parents through it all.
Singlets or short/compression shirts are required for tournaments. We have switched our supplier this year to lower costs for parents. Order forms will be posted within the next week or so, as will fan gear.
Our goal is to let every kid that wants to wrestle be given that opportunity. If cost is an issue, we have money graciously given by families for this very reason. Scholarship forms are available upon request. We are also looking for business sponsors to help keep our costs low and provide the opportunity for more kids to wrestle and compete. If your business, or a business you know, would be interested in donating (we are a 501(c)3 organization) please let us know.
