Welcome visitors/those interested in the Glastonbury Spring Basketball League!
This is the official page to register for the upcoming outdoor league slated to hopefully start once the GBA season winds down in early-mid March. I anticipate we will start the season sometime in late March or the month of April, with the draft commencing in early March if we can get enough participants registered by then. I thought I would use this article to answer any hypothetical FAQs any interested members might have before the season starts, but if there's any you have that I didn't answer here or on the registration page please feel free to send me an email on this website (which you can do by going to the "About" tab and clicking Contact Info, then the Contact button) or by dming me on the official Instagram page for the league which is linked on this website.
Potential FAQs
Where will the games be played?
I hope to have the games played at various outdoor courts in the town of Glastonbury that aren't as frequently occupied as Riverfront or Addison Park, so that way we can hopefully have a place to set aside a day a week to host all the games (barring the weather). The courts I had in mind to use would be the town Magnet School court (next to Stop and Shop) and/or the Nayaug Elementary School court, since both contain a three point line which we intend on using
Will there be referees?
Potentially. There won't be official referees that are certified like in the town's winter program GBA, but I do hope to gather a volunteer or two that don't plan on playing who I KNOW will be unbiased in reffing and organizing the games played. If interested, contact me in the contact info section of this page or dm the official Instagram account.
How do I register for the league?
There is a link to the registration page to the right of this article you can click to officially register for the league. Please note that you are required to make an account for this website in order to register for the league.
Who will be keeping score/running the clock?
Me, the commissioner. However, I do hope to play on one of the teams this upcoming season depending on who drafts me (as I do not have plans on becoming a captain unless necessary), so because of that I am looking for an UNBIASED volunteer, preferably one that isn't playing, who will be willing to handle these duties during games where I'm playing. If interested, again, contact me via this website or the official Instagram. Otherwise, I will likely not bother playing to focus on the duties of scoring/running games and also managing the league as a whole.
How will I be made aware that my scheduled game is cancelled?
I will post an official notice on the league's Instagram page, on this website, and over a league-wide email when games will be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances and/or weather related issues. It is your responsibility to check these sources when there's supposedly going to be a weather problem the day of the scheduled games. Any other reason for cancellation will be at my discretion and let known hopefully ahead of time to everyone.
What does it mean to be a captain of a team?
This position is detailed on the registration page of the website to the right of this article, please read what the position entails carefully before you register to be a captain!
I will answer more questions people have if you contact me via this website or a personal social media/phone number I have if you know it. I will also answer them on the official league Instagram linked on this website (username is @gburyspringbball). Otherwise, I look forward to the season hopefully getting underway within the next few months.
Thank you,
Mike W
Commissioner of the GSBL
