News & Updates:

April 29, 2020

Good morning G-K Youth Baseball family,

With the latest news and regulations from both the state and federal governments, we wanted to update you on where our spring baseball season stands.  Some local youth baseball organizations have pulled the plug on their spring schedules.  We have NOT CANCELLED yet. Please see below for the most up to date information we can give you for your child’s team.

INFORMATION FOR ALL LEVELS BASED ON WHERE WE ARE AT 04/28/20…….

Instructional Baseball (typically K-2nd Graders):
This level has not been cancelled yet.  With this level being played against only G-K and Kirkland teams, we will hold out as long as possible to get some sort of season in.  The game schedule may change or be condensed some, but if we are able to start baseball activities on June 1st, we will have a season.

Minor Baseball (typically 3rd-4th Graders):
This level has not been cancelled yet.  This level players under the umbrella of Belvidere Youth Baseball, who has not cancelled their spring season yet.  They are looking at all options for a game schedule to cover June/July.  The season will wrap up before Football starts no matter what.  We have been told they are looking at a few different ways to organize their game schedule, and once we have more information, we will pass it on.

Bronco Baseball (typically 5th-6th Graders):
This level has not been cancelled yet.  This level players under the umbrella of Belvidere Youth Baseball, who has not cancelled their spring season yet.  They are looking at all options for a game schedule to cover June/July.  The season will wrap up before Football starts no matter what.  We have been told they are looking at a few different ways to organize their game schedule, and once we have more information, we will pass it on.

Pony Baseball (typically 7th-8th Graders):
This level normally plays under the Sycamore Youth Baseball umbrella, playing teams from Sycamore and DeKalb.  Sycamore Youth Baseball has indeed cancelled their spring season.  However, Belvidere Youth Baseball has agreed to make room for us in their league this year.  Local towns involved in that league are Belvidere, Kirkland, Poplar Grove, and Marengo.  They are working on a schedule, and once that information is available, we will pass it on.

Genoa Generals (travel baseball):
We have not seen an update from KCBL since mid-March.  At this time, we consider this season to still be postponed.  As more information from the KCBL league office comes out, it will be passed on.  In regard to the Blue Badger, this tournament is still on.  We will wait this out as long as possible, and if social distancing guidelines are loosened, and the school facilities are made available, we will host the tournament.

Raffle Calendar Fundraiser:
If our season still happens as outlined above, the raffle calendar fundraiser will still take place this year.  Families will be given a date that all calendars and money must be turned in by, and full slate of winners will be picked.  Please see below for the plan if the season is cancelled.

INFORMATION REGARDING THE SEASON IF IT IS DECIDED TO BE CANCELLED……

Registration Fees:
In the event that we are forced to cancel our spring season, two options will be available.  The first option would be to issue a credit to the family toward the 2021 season.  If you are paid in full for 2020, you would be considered paid in full for 2021, even if there is an increase in price.  The second option would be for the league to issue you a refund, payable by check and mailed to the address on your registration.

Raffle Calendar Fundraiser:
In the event that we are forced to cancel our spring season, no raffle winners will be drawn in 2020. The plan is as follows:

1)      Any tickets that have been turned in already will be saved and entered in our 2021 drawings.

2)      Any tickets that have been sold and NOT turned in already can be turned in to be saved for the 2021 drawings.

3)      All 2020 calendars that were turned in would be entered in a special series of drawings to take place before the season starts in 2021.  They would also be entered in to the 2021 season’s daily drawings.

4)      All families that sold and turned in raffle calendars for 2020 will still be asked to sell their share of 10 calendars in 2021.

Fall Baseball:
In the event that we are forced to cancel our spring season, we will still move forward with plans on offering fall baseball!  Please keep an eye out to email/Facebook/website for information later in the summer regarding that.  There is a chance, especially if all local baseball is cancelled this spring, that fall baseball could be expanded on.

Also, if our local affiliate leagues do decide to cancel a typical season and tournament format, we are still looking at all options to get our Genoa-Kingston players some sort of baseball in this summer, once we are allowed to do so.  If you feel that your child will/should not be playing baseball this summer, even if regulations are relaxed and we are allowed to take the field, please let us know so we can adjust our teams accordingly.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to gkyouthbaseball@gmail.com.

Thank you.
