Week 8-
GMSL action resumed Monday 7-31-2023 at Libby's Field in Gorham, NH. In the opening game Fortins was able to come back from against The Land and take the W 5-3. The Land jumped out to an early 2-0 lead but saw it vanish in 3rd inning and trailed 4-2 going into the 4th. Fortins was then able to add on another run and take a commanding 5-2 lead. In the 6th inning The Land was able to get a run back to cut into Fortins lead making it 5-3 but the efforts were for nothing as hurler Ryan Fortin was able to shut the door and get another W on the mound for his club.
The second game of the night saw Go Time cement themselves in to the finals of this years playoffs with their 3-0 win over Berlin City. With the loss Berlin City has now dropped 3 in a row heading into the last week of the regular season. A memorable moment for Bryan Hood occured early in the contest when he took his father Don Hood deep over the right field wall. Go time played stellar defense and looks like a hard team to beat in the best of three final.
Week 5-
Libbies Field was able to host GMSL action again on Monday night after last weeks cancellation due to heavy rain. The 6 PM game featured Go Time and The Land. Rollie Poirier and Steve Flynn got the nods from the respective managers and both were able to evade trouble in the first inning. The Lands Brandon Gilbert was able to start the 4-6-3 double play to get The Land to the dugout in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first The Land was able to get the first two batters of the game aboard but grizzley veteran Rollie Poirier was able to bear down and retire the side leaving things even after 1 inning of play. From there it was all Go Time as they jumped out to an 11-0 lead led by Ethan Enman who had a great night at the plate for the toilet boys. The Land was able to break the shut out in the bottom of the 7th but their night ended in a five inning shalacking. Land Manager talked to reporters after the game and was asked if there was any carry over from the first meeting between these two teams which ended in a heated exchange after The Lands victory, he stated "Unfortunatly for both teams we were both shorthanded playing 9 man. We were missing a few key pieces to our puzzle but so were they so no excuses. To answer your question, I think the fact Jamo had to work tonight kind of kept things normal. We didnt forget and I'm sure they didnt so we will see them again down the road and maybe there will be a message sent." One has to wonder if this is a real rivalry or just manager travis L'Heureux trying to put some fight in his club.
The late game between Fortins and Berlin City was figured to be a great game and it didnt dissapoint. Fortins was able to jump on top early in the game with a 4-0 lead. It never felt like Berlin City was out of it though and most in the stands were waiting for their big inning to get back in the game. Fortins hurler Ryan Fortin pitched a great game and was picked up by his defense by many very nice plays. On the other side Berlin Citys Don Hood was let down by some mental mistakes that you dont usually see from a Ryan Richard coached team. When the dust settled Fortins was able to walk away with a 9-1 victory. Talking with a league exec after the game the unnamed manager talked about how well Fortins meshed on the field. Stating "for the first time this season they played with a swagger, they had eachothers backs, and if they can continue to play with postitive confidence and not get down on eachother they may be the best team in the league. Fortin pitched great and didnt walk many batters and you could see they were having fun out there."
Week 4-
The rain held off at Libbies Field in Gorham, NH and allowed the GMSL action to carry on in orderly fashion on Monday June 26, 2023. The 6:00 PM game featured The Land fresh off their win vs. Go Time and Berlin City looking to remain in the hunt for the bye to the finals. The Land had a sluggish start to the game which allowed Berlin City to jump out to a 5-0 lead early in the ball game. The Land chipped away in the third with 2 runs only to see Berlin City fire back with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the third. Steve Flynn got the start for The Land and went 3 2/3 before running into trouble which led to a pitching change that saw Travis L'Heureux enter the game on the mound. Berlin City veteran hurler Don Hood went the distance for the boys in baby blue and kept The Land out of any big innings until the 7th. The Lands Jay Poulin had the only spark of offense for the men of the woods with a towering three run homer in the 7th. Berlin City was led offensively by Travis Lamontange, Eric Nelson and Adam Converse. The Land and Berlin City will lick their wounds and return to action after the 4th of July break.
The 7:30 PM game between the shorthand Go Time and young gunning Fortins club was the game of the night. Go Time was able to crawl away with a 7-6 victory led by the pitching of Rollie Poirier. Go Time jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Fortins made a pitching change that saw Ryan Fortin hand the ball to rookie pitcher Cam Cochran. Cochran was able to slow Go Time down enough for his club to get back into the game and tie things up at 5 apiece. Go Times Ethan Enman and Bryan Hood led their squad offensively coming up with timely hits late in the ball game to stretch their lead to 7-5. Berlin City used their youth and was able to score a run in the bottom of the 5th with some aggresive baserunning to make it a 7-6 game heading into the 6th inning. In the end Rollie Poirier was too much for Fortins and was able to create many weak ground balls right back to him for easy outs. Go Time remains in first place with a huge game vs Berlin City in two weeks. Fortins remains to be the team no one wants to see in the playoffs and will only get better as the season continues on.
Week 3-
The boys of summer took the field for week 3 of GMSL infront of a large crowd of fans Monday night. The 6:00 PM game between Berlin City and Fortins didnt disappoint. The game was a back and forth affair that saw Berlin City score 2 runs in the late innings to give themselves a 5-3 lead. That prooved to be enough for Don Hood as he was able to shut the door on any Fortins idea of a comeback. Ryan Fortin went the distance once again for Fortins and threw the ball very well and certainly gave his team a chance for their 2nd win of the season. Berlin City manager Ryan Richard stated "This was a great win for our team to get back to the winning side of things after a loss last week. Our defensive play was a lot better this week and that was the difference in a low scoring game. This league is up for grabs for the one seed so every week matters to give yourself a chance at the 1 seed which cements you into the championship series." Both clubs will tend to their bruises and be ready to go next Monday.
Its not often you hear of a must win game for a club three weeks into any season but with the GMSL 9 game schedule the 7:30 PM tilt between The Land and Go Time was just that for The Land. Going back 3 games with 6 remaining would of almost took The Land out of any chance of being in contention for the Bye to the finals. The Land boys were able to jump out to a lead led by shortstop star Luke Enmans 2 run homer that stretched The Lands lead to 4-0 in the 2nd inning. Go Time trailing 8-0 showed some fight in the 6th inning and chipped away at The Lands lead scoring two runs of their own. The Land was able to get a run back in the top half of the 7th on a sac fly to head into the bottom of the 7th up 9-2. Go Time didnt go quite and had runners on trailing 9-5 when The Land was able to finally shut the door on their first win of the season. It was just then as the line drive hit to Luke Enman settled beautifully into his mitt the fireworks lit off between the two clubs. The Lands Steve Flynn who pitched a masterful game let out a scream of happiness/relief that set off Go Times Jamason Levesque. Words were then exchanged between Jamason and The Lands manager Travis L'Heureux as the benches were looming in the background of Libbies Pond waiting for a reason to charge the field. In the end cooler heads prevailed and both teams went the their respected ways for the night. We were able to reach Travis L'Heureux to ask him about the late night bruhaha that almost was, he stated " First of all Jamason was with me this weekend to celebrate my daughters 3rd birthday and theres a 26 year old friendship between the two of us so thats that. I felt Steve threw well tonight and was happy to see him get his 1st W on the mound as I know how hard they are to come by with 1 win toeing the rubber in 2 seasons myself." he continued "we were able to get a W vs. the best team in the league so I dont blame them for reacting to our excitment in week 3 of the season." One has to wonder if cooler heads truely prevailed or if this is setting up to be this years 2004 yankees vs redsox hate on the diamond. Get down to Libbies and find out on July 17th.
Week 2-
The GMSL returned to action on Monday June 12, 2023 with The Land and Fortins taking the field for the 6:00 PM game. In the top of the 1st The Land jumped out to a 2-0 lead. That lead didnt last long though as Fortins came firing back in the bottom of the 1st with 4 runs of their own to make it a 4-2 ballgame. Both teams had chances through the innings that followed and it wasnt until the bottom of the 4th that Fortins had the bases loaded with no outs, The Land was able to keep the scoring to a minimum and allowed 1 run going down 5-2 after 4 innings of play. In the top of the 5th inning The Land bats found some life and were able to tie the game at 5-5 each. The back and forth game found extra innings with Jer Dow getting the walk off hit in the bottom of the 8th. Fortins skipper Ryan Fortin went the distance on the mound and stated "the guys behind me really stepped up and made some nice plays when needed." The Lands manager Travis L'Heureux was again pleased with his clubs effort in the loss saying "once again this week we gave ourselves a chance to win, with the season being so early hopefully we can learn on how to get a lead and hold it. Steve Flynn came in to pitch the 5th and gave us 3 really good innings."
Go Time and Berlin City played in the high anticipated 7:15 PM game. Go Time was able to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame of the 1st inning. Go Times Rollie Poirier was able to keep the Berlin City bats silent for most of the night. Go time stretched their lead to 6-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th. Berlin City was able to crack the scoreboard for 2 runs of their own but ended up with a 6-2 loss. Berlin City bench boss Ryan Richard was reached via phone after the game and said "we hit the ball hard but just at them. Rollie made three plays up the middle that saved some hits. Don Hood did what he does and threw strikes while moving the ball around to keep them off balance but we have to be better behind him." Go Time looks to be the early favorite this season and first baseman Jamason Levesque stated "We played really good defense tonight and I think Rollie had a 2 hitter going into the 7th." He then said "Ethan Enman scored from second and I from first on a shot to the wall, when we got to the bench it was good to see the concern of Benny Estrella who asked us if we were ok. Ethan said, no Ben, were not" Go Time looks okay sitting at first in the standings.
Week 1-
In the 6:00 PM game Go Time was able to take advantage of the short handed Fortins club and run away with a 17-2 victory. Go Time Manager Bryan Hood was happy with the depth of his lineup that featured a balanced attack. On the other side Fortin Skipper Ryan Fortin was happy with the heart his team possessed with a short handed lineup and has moved on to next week when he gets some sluggers back in the lineup.
The 7:30 PM game had Berlin City Defeat The Land 8-6. Berlin City jumped out with a commanding 4-0 lead after the first inning and was able to hold off The Lands late push to make things interesting. Berlin Citys bench boss Ryan Richard was thrilled with the pitching of Ryan Gagnon in the absense of veteran hurler Don Hood. The Lands manager Travis L'Heureux wasnt happy with the way the game started but was pleased with the way the club fought back in the end to give themselves a chance at an opening day win.
Next week- The Land and Fortins will Battle it out for their first win of the season at 6:00 PM. The 7:30 PM matchup between Go Time and Berlin City will be a good measuring stick for both clubs.

SPARES LIST

On Monday May 18, 2020 the four captains got together and selected their rosters. The overall goal of the draft was successful as there is certainly parity throughout the league. On any Monday night in the months of June, July, and August you could make your way down to Libby's field in Gorham NH and see any team win.
Now let me bring you into the draft room and what it felt like to watch the captains make there selections. Many selections you knew were coming. Jamason Levesque taking long time teammate Rollie Poirier as the 1st overall selection, and the Enman brothers sticking together as they have their entire lives. You cant forget about Bryan Hood selecting his father Don Hood who has thrown many innings in his career. As for the rest of the draft though, there were times where you could feel the guys watching the captain on the clock praying they didn't take their next pick. When the dust settled and the rosters were all picked the trade market opened up. In my opinion, I wont say names, but one of the captains missed out on a blockbuster trade that could of changed the league right there in Tipsy's Tavern. At the end of the day there was one trade that was completed. The land sent IF Travis Lamontange to Remax for OF Andrew Coulombe.
The draft has already served it purpose beautifully without a pitch even being thrown. Guys will show up on Mondays and play ball with guys they don't even know. Friendships will be built. Who knows, they may even last a lifetime.
Play Ball,
Travis
