2018 League Age Determination
As many of our more experienced baseball family members are aware, Little League has been transitioning the league age determination date from end of April to the end of August over the past few years. This year, 2018, is the final transition year with the last of the 2005 birth year players grandfathered for the 2018 season (players born between May 1 and August 31, 2005 are grandfathered as 12-year-olds for this season). As of the 2019 season all players will be subject to the August 31 age determination date. The Little League age determination tool is available at the following website (as is the age determination chart for download) - https://www.littleleague.org/ play-little-league/determine- league-age/
New Bat Rules 2018
As I mentioned last year, Little League International changed the rules regarding our bats for the 2018 season. We are now required to follow the USABat standard for all bats other than for our Senior players (15 and 16 year olds) who continue with the BBCOR standard same as in years previous. Parents need to confirm that any bats purchased meet the USABat standard which is easily identifiable by the USABat symbol affixed to the bat. All older Little League bats are no longer approved for games or team practices. EMBA has purchased new bats (minimum of three per team) for the upcoming season to ensure that we have the minimum number of bats needed to support our players. Over the coming years we will add bats as necessary to provide a better breadth and quality but for the time being I am confident we will be able to successfully meet the new rules. Please note that there are exceptions for our T-Ball bats used in T-Ball and Coach Pitch – more information will follow for our TB and CP families at registration time. More information on the new bat rules is available at:

Greely Black Hawks 2016 Minor League Champs
Our Hawks were Golden in Nepean!
— from Coach Larry...
The boys won the Nepean Minor ball tourney last weekend. Last year we were 0-3 in the tourney and this year we went 4-1 with a thrilling last inning comeback in the Finals!
Great job boys!
Hawks vs Hawks x3!
Now in our 10th season of existence, only twice have we had more than one Greely Hawks team playing against another in the same league – 2 teams in Minor in 2009 and 2 teams in Senior in 2014 – well, this season we're very proud to say we've bumped that up a notch as we have not one, not two, but THREE Greely Hawks squads squaring off against eachother in the Carleton-Russell Little League's 9-team Minor Division!
And while our youngest of those 3 Greely teams is still finding its way but still having a blast along the way, our other 2 more experienced squads are soaring in the first half of the season with a combined 13W-1L-0T record – and the only blemish on that record for our Black Hawks came last night at the hands of the still perfect 7-0 Golden Hawks.
It's fantastic to see so many young Hawks having a great time playing Little League Baseball in our community!
GO HAWKS GO!!
If you need baseball equipment as the season starts, Lacroix Sports on Lancaster Road is the place to shop! They have everything you need to get ready to play.
Tell them you are with Greely Hawks Baseball and they will give you a 10% discount off of your purchase.
