Please let me know if you have any questions.
The Green Hornet's Girls High School basketball league, commonly called "Girls Scrub", is a fun league for players of all skill levels. The league gives gym time for each team to practice one time. The rest of our gym time is dedicated to games.
The league emphasizes equal playing time- every player who attends a game will play at least two quarters. No one will play four quarters unless everyone else gets at least three quarters.
Registration is in late summer/early fall. Evaluations are held in November followed by a draft for coaches. Games start in early December. The season ends with a double-elimination tournament in February.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Girls Scrub League Coordinator
Senior Players-- Please contact me if you are interested in applying for the Green Hornets Girls Basketball Scholarship in memory of Joe Gillespie. For the past several years, we have awarded at least one $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior.
Our winners for the 2018 Joe Gillespie Scholarship were Kaitlyn Lilly (first place, $1000 scholarship) and both Jenna Farrell and Courtney Bopp (second place, $500 scholarship each). Kaitlyn and Jenna were seniors at Severna Park High School. Courtney was a senior at Chesapeake High School.
The schedule below will be updated once we have our gym times and locations. TBA = To Be Announced.
Scheduling gyms for the massive Green Hornet's program is a daunting task and is handled by some extraordinary volunteers in our community, including Judy Tacyn. Unexpected gym closures, the primacy of the school's events over their facilities, and weather are just some of the challenges associated with putting together a good schedule. We will deal with scheduling curveballs when we get them. This web site is the primary mechanism that I will use to convey scheduling information. I will strive to be clear and timely with the updates
Everyone's understanding and flexibility is appreciated! If you don't know Judy, please ask around at different basketball events. She lives and breaths this stuff on behalf of all the children in our community. Judy deserves our appreciation and words of thanks.
Please note- We are aiming for a 14 game regular season schedule (14 games for each of the eight teams.) We will have games on Saturdays and Sundays through the middle of February. By mid-February, we will start a double elimination tournament. Each team will get at least two games in the double elimination format. The tournament will end before the end of February. We strive to be done our winter sports before the High School sports start on 1 March 2019.
