Just wanted to thank all teams for joining once again! I would also like to thank the Egg Harbor City Community School for working so hard and providing our organization with the best possible experience. Special thanks to the Custodians for dropping what they are doing each night and going above and beyond for little old needy me. I would also like to thank Dan McGinnis as usual for his hard work as Chief Referee.

But most importantly I'd like to thank my most valuable volunteers: Assistant Director/VP/COO Walt Kienzle! Score Keepers/Basketball Stud: Dimiere Freeman

As many of you know, Harbor Hoops was a fundraiser league organized and managed by volunteers. It benefited the Jonathan DeMario Memorial Scholarship Fund. This Scholarship is to preserve the memory of our great friend Jonny and to reward students interested in Science. Jon was a physicist and environmental engineer, who loved the world as it was, he loved his friends, family and could put a smile on the face of a complete stranger. He was easily the most charming and charismatic person one could meet. Jon's life was cut tragically short in 2012 after his battle with a rare and devastating form of cancer, multiple myeloma, at the age of 34.

So here we are a few years later and Jonny would be proud. He loved all sports. He was a huge Yankees and Saints fan. Jon was a very good baseball player and cross country runner. However, it was the game of basketball that stood out to me. Everyone has a friend like this. Jon played basketball with one goal and that was to crash the boards hard and often with a recklessness that struck fear in the hearts of his best friends. It was a pleasure to play with him and a relief to be on his team.

The Jonathan DeMario Memorial Scholarship has provided several scholarships to area students already and 2022 looks even more promising.

To anyone interested, we also hold a co-ed softball tournament in the end of Summer and are always looking for more teams. It's a casual tourney that features great food, a farmers market, 10 teams at least, and a variety of talent. Please let me know if interested.
