Spring Baseball and Softball Field Maintenance

Thank you to all our parents/families for their patience and understanding in adjusting to this new reality. Officially, I write to announce that HYAL complex and fields are closed through 4/5/20. We will continue to monitor this situation and make a determination as to whether to continue with field maintenance after April 5th, or adopt some other approach depending on local conditions at that time.

Thank you for your understanding and please stay home and safe.

Baseball & Softball

On behalf of the Hazlet Youth Athletic League, it is a pleasure to welcome you to the 2020 Spring Youth Baseball and Softball League.

We wish were sending this out with our usual message of hope and well wishes for an enjoyable season and laying out information for teams, practices and games.  However, we are all going through an unprecedented situation that we are all trying to navigate together.  COVID-19 has thrown our normal everyday world upside down.  HYAL baseball and softball is feeling the effects of this as well.

We have been in close contact with both the Babe Ruth organization, as well as USABL travel baseball, and are currently monitoring this situation.  Babe Ruth is advising to take precautions and suspend baseball activity if necessary in accordance with local authorities, and there is no timetable as to when play could/should resume.  USABL is taking a more wait and see approach and has simply pushed back the start of the season to the first weekend of April.

At this point, HYAL is following suit with what all federal and state guidelines are saying and all baseball and softball activity is on hold until further notice.  Our plan for the season was to begin on April 18th - still 1 month away.  However, we do not know to what extent the coronavirus will have on our season.  A week ago, the thought of schools closing seemed impossible.  At this time, all we can do is simply continue to monitor this fluid situation and provide updates as we are made aware.  We recognize that the start of the season may be pushed back, but we are hopeful that we will still be able to play ball at some point.

In terms of field maintenance, we will continue to be working at the fields on Saturday mornings keeping in the guidelines of social distancing of at least 6 feet.  Assuming play will resume at some point, we can't leave the fields unattended as the weather starts to transition to spring.  The people who have signed up are welcome to come and assist.  However, if you do not feel comfortable doing so, please let us know that you will not be able to attend and we will work with you to reschedule when possible/applicable.

Please note that we will not be cashing any work duty deposit checks at this time, we will reassess as things progress and Wish for the Best!  Please take some time and go in your yard and have a catch with your child, throw them some ground balls, let them practice pitching and also hitting off of a tee!

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.   Contact information can be found our our website for both the baseball and softball commissioner.  For now, we can only wish that everyone stay safe and healthy!

Sincerely,
Hazlet Youth Athletic League
