"YOU'RE NOT PLAYING FOOTBALL UNLESS YOU'RE PLAYING TYFA FOOTBALL"

Est. 2014

"Hello and welcome to the Home of the New Braunfels JR Cougars".r

WHO WE ARE

We are aneducation firstFootball & Cheer program with a strong focus on fundamentals, technique, and approach. Our goal is to develop well-rounded young men and women who learn not only the fundamentals of football and Cheer, but also the importance of education and teamwork, in an atmosphere conductive to developing sound mind, body and character - and having "FUN" along the way.  We will practice the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and physical fitness.

Our program stresses learning lessons of value far beyond the playing days, such as self-discipline, teamwork, concentration, friendship, leadership, and, good sportsmanship. Our focus will be teaching the basic fundamentals, technique and preparing them for Middle School.

We offer Flag Football (ages 4-5)

Tackle Football for 6U, 7U, 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U and 13U (ages 6-13).

Cheer and Dance (ages 4-13).

NOTE: We only offer Senior Division Teams in the Spring each year. There WILL NOT be any Senior Teams in Fall.

The focus of our Football Program is designed to develop the fundamental football skills while learning teamwork, strategy, and sportsmanship preparing our athletes for Middle School and High School and to HAVE FUN everytime we get together! Skills taught include passing, catching, offense and defensive schemes, and rules of the game.

The focus of our Cheer Program is designed as an instructional introduction to sideline cheer. We offer a safe and productive environment for your Cheerleader to learn the fundamentals of cheer as well as the importance of teamwork and to also prepare them for Middle School. Participants will have the opportunity to learn basic motions, chants, jumps, and make new friends all while developing discipline and leadership skills all while having team spirit.

WHEN DOES THE SEASON START?

In our League, TYFA (Texas Youth Football Association), there are 2 Season's, Spring and Fall

Spring - Registration begins on 1 December with practices beginning towards the end of February with 1st game in April.

Fall - Registration will begin on 1 June with practices beginning in July after the 4th of July with 1st game in September.

PRACTICE & GAMES

Our practices and Home Games will be on a TURF FIELD at OAK RUN FOOTBALL FIELD located at 415 OAK RUN PT. New Braunfels.

Practices in FALL will be 4 days a week, MONDAY'STUESDAY'S , WEDNESDAY'S and THURSDAY'S 6pm to 8pm. Once school starts, we will go to just 3 days a week MONDAY'S, WEDNESDAY'S, and THURSDAY'S each week 6pm to 8pm.

Practices in SPRING will be 4 days a week for the first few weeks, MONDAY'STUESDAY'S , WEDNESDAY'S and THURSDAY'S 6pm to 8pm and then we will go to just 3 days a week MONDAY'S, WEDNESDAY'S, and THURSDAY'S each week 6pm to 8pm if all is going well.

We will have practices during Spring Break for those who are not going anywhere but for families who want to take a week off, Spring Break "IS AN EXCUSED ABSENCE".

NOTE: Practice Dates can change due to school shedule but we will always try and have at least 3 practice days if possible and can be somewhere else other than at Oak Run.

In Spring, there will be a total of 6 Games that can be played at Oak Run (if we host) or somewhere in San Antonio or surrounding area with a end of season tournament down in McAllen Texas.

In Fall, 4 Home Games will be played at Oak Run in New Braunfels and 4 Away Games will be somewhere in San Antonio or surrounding area.

WHAT ABOUT ATHLETES NOT COMING TO PRACTICE

We have to have rules in place that hold the integrity of our program together. It's not just about wins. It's about teaching character, integrity, and accountability

If an athlete doesn't show up to practice, they won't play the 1st quarter. If they miss 2 practices, they won't play the entire half. If they miss 3 practices, they won't play in the game at all. This applies to both Cheerleaders and Football players.

EQUIPMENT
We provide SPEEDFLEX HELMET, GUARDIAN CAP and SHOULDER PADS so you don't have to buy! These items are included with your registration fee as a rental and due back at end of season or immediately if you and your student athlete decide to quit or removed from the program.

CAN I PROVIDE MY OWN HELMET AND SHOULDER PADS?

HELMETS – Yes but in the Spring "ONLY" because some players come from different teams, players helmets DO NOT have to be the same color. Helmets must also be recertified minimum of every two years with a Sticker showing that they have been recertified. Any helmet outside of the reconditioning window WILL NOT BE ALLOWED

For the FALL SEASON by rule, all helmets and facemask have to be the same color. Our Helmets are Scarlett Red and facemask are black.

SHOULDER PADS - Owned Shoulder Pads may be worn Spring or Fall as long as they are serviceable and fit properly.

SAFETY
Safety should be "EVERYONES" top priority which is why we provide RIDDELL SPEEDFLEX HELMETS along with the GUARDIAN CAP for extra protection. Again, you DO NOT have to buy as we provide these to ALL OUR ATHLETES.

Based on recent changes implemented by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA) will now ALLOW the use of Guardian Caps during official games beginning in the fall 2025 season. This update reflects our continued commitment to player safety and aligns with evolving standards being adopted at the high school and collegiate levels.

COMMITMENT

Hello Parents. We completely understand that life can be unpredictable at times but I want to emphasize the importance that to achieve our goals and play well, we need FULL COMMITMENT from everyone. If we as coaches cannot get that commitment, we'll still play our scheduled games but I'll withdraw our Organization/Team from the playoffs/cheer comps.

We need EVERY PLAYER/CHEERLEADER at all our practices to succeed in our mission to coach and to train. With only a couple of practices a week we rely on everyone's presence to learn and know what to do. Youth football can be a rough sport if a player does not know their responsibilities and is not comfortable on the field. If a player is not comfortable, they usually slow down and become vulnerable. Here brings the safety issue.

As you may or may not know, TYFA is the most competitive youth football league in the great state of Texas, and these players must be continuously conditioned in their trade or the whole team's safety and plan is affected. Please schedule other plans around our practices.  Thank you.

And as always, if you don't like what you see....VOLUNTEER
