TIME LIMITS REVISED FOR 2019
Due to the outpouring of concern about the imposed time limits and the break in between games where umpires need to get changed we are revising our time limit rules. Please carry this note to your games so there are no issues with the new rules.
Field permits are costly and we play a 1:50 time limit at all BOS league fields that have back-to-back games or DH's - these fields include Baseball Heaven 1, 2, 3, 4, Eisenhower Park A, B and C, Mitchel Field A and B, Cantiague Park, Bay Park, Brentwood State Park 1 and 2, PAL Stadium, PAL C-1, NYIT and Hofstra.
Every other game in league play is a 2-hour time limit. If a team has its own permit on a private field like Merillon Park, Garden City Park, Long Island Lutheran, that is also a 2-hour time limit. This keeps the games moving and doesn't end up costing the teams at the back end of the schedule - the later games. It's also a courtesy to be finished when another league/organization is coming onto a field for a game. We have to respect their time slots.
The Long Island Boys of Summer board of directors has decided that these time limits will eliminate some of the early season issues with games being shortened. Also, and most important, the time limit does not start until the first warm up pitch is thrown, and then the umpire must notify both teams of the start time.
Regular season games in the summer and fall that go four full innings are now official. We've had a few guys working the clock to avoid a loss - please always play with integrity.
There are NO TIME LIMITS for playoff games.
BASES, HELMETS, AND PROPER ATTIRE
ATTENTION ALL MANAGERS AND COACHES
BASES
All teams must have a set of bases for each game. Some fields accommodate us with bases but others do not so please remember to bring them to all fields. Town of Brookhaven fields are an example of fields that do not supply bases but there are others as well and teams must have a their own set of bases.
COACHING HELMETS
See Rule 18 under Boys of Summer rules.
COACHING ATTIRE
Another hot topic at the midway point of our season is the coaches attire. We agreed at the March meeting that all coaches must be properly dressed for games. A coaches shirt, team jersey or pullover is acceptable. Coaches shorts or baseball pants are also acceptable. NO denim or cutoff shorts, slacks, work pants, capris, skirts, work boots or dress shoes can be worn while coaching the bases. This also should never be an issue to be dealt with at the field.
