Cowboys Make State Tournament for Second Year In A Row

The Cowboys have clinched the 18th seed in the Class S State Tournament. This is the second year in a row the Cowboys have achieved that goal and the third time in four years. The Cowboys will travel to Oxford High School on Tuesday for the first round of the state tournament.

Litchfield Loses On Walk-Off To Northwestern

May 24, 2024 – 01:30 PM

The Cowboys fell to the Highlanders 8-7 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the seventh when Crone doubled, scoring one run.

The Highlanders were the first to get on the board when Martocchio doubled in the first, scoring one.

Northwestern added one run in the third. Crone grounded out, making the score 2-0.

The Cowboys tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a single by Jack Gollow, and a wild pitch.

In the bottom of the sixth, Northwestern broke up the tie when Ayers singled, scoring two runs. They tacked on another to make it 7-4.

Gus Worden doubled on the sixth pitch of his at-bat in the seventh to tie the game 7-7.

Chuck Pickert started on the hill for the Cowboys. He gave up five hits and four runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out two and walking four. Martocchio led things off for the Highlanders. He allowed three hits and five runs (three earned) over six innings of work, striking out eight and walking three.

Worden went 1-3 at the plate and drove in two runs while Gollow went 2-4 to lead the Cowboys in hits.

Northwestern accumulated 10 hits on the day. Martocchio and Stimson each collected three hits for Northwestern. They also earned seven walks and seven stolen bases in the game.

Cowboys With Tough Loss To Wamogo

May 22, 2024 – 03:30 PM

The Cowboys had trouble keeping up with Wamogo in a 9-1 loss on Wednesday.

Wamogo got on the board in the second inning after Austin Gilbert singled, scoring one run.

Travis Lipinsky stepped on the hill first for the Cowboys. The lefty surrendered grou hits and three runs (one earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking five. John Gilbert threw the entire game for the Warriors surrendering three hits and one run (zero earned), striking out four and walking one.

Cyrus Gerena, Chase Reynolds, and Travis Lipinsky each collected one hit for the Cowboys.

Gilbert led Wamogo with two hits in three at bats. DJ Willenbrock and Quinn Coffey each drove in two runs for Wamogo. Wamogo had a good eye at the plate with nine walks in the game. Patrick Weaving, Josh DeLello, Coffey, and Derek DeNigris led the team with two walks each. 

The Cowboys travel to Northwestern on Friday for the final regular season matchup of the season! Go Cowboys!


Strong Hitting Not Enough As Cowboys Fall To Warriors

Even though Litchfield collected eight hits to Wamogo's four, they still fell 6-3 on Saturday. Travis Lipinsky led the Cowboys with three hits.

The Cowboys got on the board in the second inning after Cyrus Gerena singled, scoring one run. 

Patrick Weaving singled, which helped Wamogo tie the game at one in the third.

The Cowboys took the lead in the top of the fourth. Elian Vega singled, scoring one run, to give Litchfield the edge, 2-1. 

In the bottom of the evening, Wamogo went back into the lead after Austin Gilbert hit a sacrifice fly, DJ Willenbrock doubled, the Cowboys made an error, and Weaving walked, each scoring a run.

Lipinsky opened the game for the Cowboys. The lefty surrendered four hits and five runs (three earned) over four innings. Derek DeNigris started the game for Wamogo. He surrendered three hits and one run over three innings, striking out two and walking two.

Nick Dest, Vega, and Gerena each drove in one run for the Cowboys. Gus Worden collected two hits for Litchfield. Lipinsky stole three bases. the Cowboys ran wild on the base paths stealing five bases.

Weaving, Willenbrock, Quinn Coffey, and John Gilbert each collected one hit for Wamogo. Gilbert, Weaving, Willenbrock, and Chase Ciccarelli each drove in one run for Wamogo. The Warriors had patience at the plate and collected six walks for the game.


Cowboys Easily Dispatch Yellow Jackets on Senior Day

The Litchfield Cowboys easily dispatched the Gilbert Yellow Jackets on Monday, 11-1.

Litchfield jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first after Zack Richardson induced Joe Sepples to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored. Chase Reynolds singled, scoring one, and Gus Worden doubled, scoring two.

The Cowboys added to their lead in the bottom of the third after Nick Dest singled, and Reynolds hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run.

Litchfield scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jack Gollow doubled, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, and Dest and Sepples each hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run each. 

Gage Rohrer stepped on the bump for the Cowboys. The starter allowed three hits and one run over five innings, striking out three and walking three. Richardson stepped on the mound first for Gilbert. He gave up eight hits and 11 runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking one.

Dest and Lipinsky were a force together in the lineup as they each collected two hits for Litchfield. Dest, Worden, Reynolds, Gollow, and Sepples each drove in two runs for the Cowboys. Dest stole two bases.

Brett Maguire led Gilbert with two hits.

The Cowboys travel to Dunkin Park to take on Wamogo for the final time on Wednesday at 3:30 PM. Go Cowboys!
