POLICY REGARDING THE USE OF EYE SHADE

 The use of eye shade must be worn as a single, solid stroke under the eye.  There shall be no numbers, words, logos, symbols or other detail located in the eye shade.  The eye shade shall not extend below the cheek bone and extend no further than the width of the eye socket.  Players having eye shade that does not meet the standard are to remove it or comply with the PIAA interpretation before participation in the game.  If the players do not comply, the officials may impose unsportsmanlike conduct type penalties as determined by their respective rules code.

NOTE:  The phrase “single, solid stroke” means single, solid, stroke – not three strokes of three different colors or a single stroke of any color other than black.  It means a single, solid stroke of black under the eye.  The purpose of eye shade is to prevent glare which is best accomplished by using black and using any other colors is merely drawing attention to the player rather than reducing glare.

About Us

The Lehigh Valley Softball Umpire’s Association was founded in 1999. Our mission is "To develop among all softball umpires a thorough understanding of the rules and mechanics of Softball umpiring as officially adopted and published by the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations (NFSHSAA); as directed by the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA)."

Any person having just passed the PIAA written exam or transferring membership from another Chapter may join by paying the current year’s dues to the chapter treasurer, made payable to LVSUA.
