About the League: in its 37th year

•     The Metro Older Timers Softball League (MOTSBL) has played for the past 30 years
•     Ottawa's Only Woodbat Softball League
•     The league is for players 40 and over
• The pitching style is Orthodox / Conventional
  
• We play Wednesday nights at Bells Corner High School at 6:30PM and 8:30PM, in Nepean Ontario Canada
• There are four teams, Aging Bulls, Wolves, Shawn Robinson Refrigeration & Gator-Aged

Wooden Bats

• In 2019, MOTSBL contacted Sam Bat of Carleton Place ( https://sambat.com/ ) to provide wood bats to the league. The league purchased 8 hard maple wood bats, and many players purchased their own customized bats.
• Hard maple is also known as Rock Maple or Sugar Maple. This is the same tree that is tapped to get maple syrup, not much more Canadian than that eh?

The league introduced wood bats to:

•     Reduce the number of injuries to the pitcher and to those playing in the in-field
•     Reduce the number of home runs to make the games more competitive
•     Give players more opportunity to field and and throw the ball to make plays
  
•     Cost, the bats are substantially cheaper than composite bats
•     The League wanted to level the playing field and ensure the long-term integrity of the league
