Field 1 - Marks Properties vs Cornerstone Services

Cornerstone Services took two games from Marks Properties. The first 4 1/2 innings of Game 1 were a 1-run game. Cornerstone scored eight runs in the final two innings to secure the victory. In Game 2, Cornerstone roared out to a 10-0 lead after four innings, but didn't score a run the rest of the way and finished with a 10-2 victory.

Joe Siciliano had a great day at the plate, going 6-for-8 with 6 RBI.  Jeff Kelly launched a three-run bomb in Game 2 and finished the day 5-for-8 with 7 RBI. Barry Bertwell was 6-for-7 on the day (plus a BB) with 5 runs scored. Charlie Kacamburas, Dan Downs, and Eric Pellerin all had 4 hits apiece, too.

Cornerstone's defense was stellar on the day. The infield and outfield were solid. Charlie made a great sliding catch and even replaced his own divot in LCF. Greg Elwell was a rock in RCF. The middle infield tandem of Pat Kelly and Austin Spinella was adding outs when needed. Cornerstone (3-1) will face the Claddagh Pub (0-2) next Sunday.

Field 2 - Lawrence British Club vs Citywide Designs

Game 1 - Both teams came out strong, 12-7 Citywide after 3 innings, pitcher's duel after that. LBC was led by Mark Sloan, Steve Pilcher, and Ralph Polichetti, each with 3 hits. Vinny Indeglia, Mike Simard, Perry Delisle, and Brian McCormack all had 3 hits for Citywide Designs. Mike Simard was the winning pitcher.

Game 2 - Citywide Designs led from start to finish, taking a 17-11 victory for their 4th win of the young season. Citywide pounded out 30 hits, led by Gary Desrochers, Brian McCormack, and Mike Perrone with 4 hits each, and 5 other players with 3 hits. Gary D had a long grand slam HR. Citywide had a very solid defensive day, including some great individual efforts from super-sub Perry Delisle at SS, Pat Collins at 2B, and the middle OFs Gary Desrochers and rookie Brian McCormack, who had a great debut in the MVSSA.

LBC made a seventh inning charge but fell short. LBC was paced by Steve Pilcher, Roger Blundell and super sub BJ Mannion with three hits. BJ pitched both games for LBC today and kept LBC within striking distance all day. From coach Chris - "Thank you BJ, as I know this was out of your comfort zone."

The Pug - The Loft vs Claddagh Pub

Claddagh Pub jumped out to a 5-1 lead early, but can't hold on and falls to The Loft by a score of 9-7. Bob Brown led the way for the Claddagh with 3 hits and 3 runs scored. DJ, Bruce Botelho, and Ken Holton contributed 2 hits each. The Loft got their first win of the season. Jack Joaquin had 2 doubles and a single, going 3 for 4. Dan McDonald pitched great and helped himself going 2 for 2 with 2 RBI.

The Loft held on to win game 2, 13-12. The Claddagh Pub scored 10 runs in the 7th to cut a 13-2 deficit to 1 run, but leaves the tying run on 2nd. Jeff Torrisi and Joe Demore had 3 hits each. DJ Fontaine chipped in with 2 EBH's and drove in 3 runs. Pete Bonasoro, Kenny Holton, and Ron Aquino contribute 2 hits each.

Speed kills - Jack Joaquin had 2 inside-the-park home runs and 4 RBI. Chet Ryan hit one over the fence and 3 RBIs. Chris Kneeland went 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs. The 3 of them knocked in 10 of the 13 runs. Dan McDonald and Dave Pierce both had 3 hits for The Loft.

Field 4 - McKinnon's Supermarkets vs Marks Properties

The games were moved from the Pug, which was unplayable due to Sunday's rain, to the open pastures of Field 4. Some notes from coach Dennis of Marks Properties: On a cold rainy opening day, it was all smiles😄 as we all know it's just good to be back on the field, right? Due to wet conditions, we did not keep a book after the 4th inning, but the play of the game was on defense! We were in the later innings in a close game, McKinnon's had the bases loaded with Kevin Brown up, who jacked a screaming line drive down the left field line, and out of nowhere, Brooks Keon darted for the ball, laid out and stole a big out! That's all I remember folks! Marks Properties (1-1) will play Cornerstone Services (1-1) next week.

Field 2 - Lawrence British Club vs Cornerstone Services

Game 1:

LBC scored a bunch late to take game 1 by a score of 13-12.  Cornerstone left the bases loaded in the 7th as LBC squeezed the final out. LBC was led by Mark Sloan with four hits, Steve Pilcher, Ralph Polichetti and super sub Perry Delisle each had 3 hits to carry the attack.

Cornerstone Services had an 8-4 lead after 3 innings, but couldn't close on a strong note. The team had 25 batters reach base, but could only muster 12 runs, leaving the bases loaded in two innings. Cornerstone's offense was led by Charlie Kacamburas' four hits and Mike Morgan's 3 hits, but they couldn't get either player to touch home plate that game. Pat Lavanga had an inside-the-park home run, which led to the dreaded week 1 hamstring pull. Better things were to come in Game 2.

Game 2:

In Game 2, Cornerstone scored in every inning. Jeff Kelly was a defensive star - making great plays, turning double plays, and quarterbacking the defensive alignments. He also used his wheels to score 3 runs and courtesy ran for multiple players. Dan Downs cranked a two-run homer and Pat Kelly hit an inside-the-park homer to go along with two other hits and 3 RBI. Barry Bertwell was on base after every at-bat and chipped in with 4 ribbies of his own. Eric Pellerin was able to keep the Lawrence British Club offense at bay and was able to record a few K's. Cornerstone Services plays Marks Properties next week on Field 1.

Cornerstone jumped out early and never looked back.  Due to the rain the book was a mess and not kept for most of the game - the score is self explanatory. LBC has Citywide next week on field 2.

Field 1 - Citywide Designs vs The Loft

Cold awful weather, but Citywide had their bats smoking for 3 hours and took both games, 18-13 and 14-9. Rookie 1B Chris Souza stole the show with a pair of (wind-aided, LOL) HRs to right field, one of which was a grand slam! Mike Bergeron said, enough of that, and smashed a couple of long balls to keep pace in the early HR race. DJ Fontaine subbed for the winners, and drove in 5 runs in each game, all w/o a HR! Coach Gary Johnson, aka Colonel Slushie, had 3 hits in game 1 as well. In game 2, DJ had 4 hits, and subs Scott Pelletier and Billy Crowley each had 3 hits, as did Souza and Erick Pineda. Citywide (2-0) will take on the Lawrence British Club (1-1) next week, while The Loft (0-2) faces off against the Claddagh Pub, who had the bye this week. A few photos below.
