MASSAPEQUA COAST LITTLE LEAGUE TAKES HOME THE 8–10-YEAR-OLD BASEBALL BANNER IN DRAMATIC FASHION

In a thrilling District 31 Championship showdown, Massapequa Coast Little League captured the 8–10-Year-Old Baseball title in unforgettable style.

The game was a nail-biter from start to finish. Merrick Bellmore LL struck first, taking a 2–0 lead in the top of the 4th inning. Coast answered in the bottom of the 5th, trimming the lead to 2–1 and setting the stage for a dramatic final inning.

Merrick Bellmore added what looked like a key insurance run in the top of the 6th, pushing their lead to 3–1. But Massapequa Coast wasn’t done yet.

In the bottom half, the rally began. The leadoff batter singled, followed by a popup that was misplayed—but Merrick Bellmore managed to get the force out at second. A gritty 7-pitch walk put runners on first and second with one out. After a strikeout looking made it two outs, another walk loaded the bases. Then, with a full count, the batter was hit by a pitch to bring in a run, closing the gap to 3–2.

With two outs and the bases still loaded, the next batter hit a ground ball that snuck past the right fielder, allowing two runs to score and giving Massapequa Coast a stunning 4–3 walk-off win.

What a game. What a finish. Both teams played with heart and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to the Massapequa Coast LL players, coaches, and families on an incredible championship run. Best of luck as you advance to the Sectional Tournament—go make District 31 proud!

NY DISTRICT 31 – 9–11-YEAR-OLD CHAMPIONS

North Bellmore North Merrick Little League is your 2025 District 31 Champion in the 9–11-year-old division!

Coming in as the defending 8–10-year-old champs, NBNM had one mission—and they delivered in dominant fashion. They opened the tournament with a 3-0 shutout over Wantagh LL, followed by another clean sheet with a 5-0 victory against Massapequa International LL.

Next came a strong Merrick Bellmore LL squad, but the result was the same: a 5-0 NBNM win. In the Championship game rematch, NBNM left no doubt, taking home the title with a commanding 9-1 win.

Incredibly, this powerhouse team gave up just one run the entire tournament—and it came in the bottom of the 6th inning of the final game.

Now it’s on to Sectionals for this talented group of players and coaches. Good luck on the next leg of your journey—make District 31 proud!

WANTAGH LITTLE LEAGUE CLAIMS DISTRICT 31 TITLE IN LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL DIVISION

For the first time since 2015, Wantagh Little League found themselves in the District Championship game—and this time, they didn’t leave empty-handed. With grit, talent, and dominant pitching, Wantagh LL captured the District 31 banner in the Little League Baseball division, marking their first District title in this division since 1993.

The title game was anchored by an incredible performance from ace Christian Peretti, who tossed a complete game two-hitter, allowing just one run and striking out five. Peretti kept the Massapequa International LL lineup off balance all night. He also shined at the plate, picking up two hits and scoring twice.

Backing him up offensively was Ethan Hunn, who delivered at the plate with two hits and three RBIs, leading a Wantagh offense that executed when it mattered most.

With the win, Wantagh LL now heads into the Sectional round with serious momentum. Being crowned District 31 Champions is no small feat—it’s widely regarded as one of the toughest districts in all of New York State. While some may say Wantagh had a favorable draw, the fact remains: they went undefeated and beat whoever stepped in front of them.

Their road to the championship began with a hard-fought 2-1 win over a strong North Bellmore North Merrick LL squad. Once again, it was Peretti on the mound, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out five. He also contributed with the bat, launching a solo home run in the top of the fourth to give Wantagh a 2-0 lead.

Next, Wantagh faced Massapequa International LL in an earlier matchup and came away with a 5-2 win, thanks to a strong outing from Ethan Hunn on the mound.

In the Championship Game rematch, Wantagh proved they were simply too much for one of District 31’s perennial powerhouses. They played composed, confident, and united—true championship baseball.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and families of Wantagh Little League on this remarkable accomplishment. Keep playing team-first baseball and make District 31 proud as you move on to Sections—and beyond.

MASSAPEQUA INTERNATIONAL LITTLE LEAGUE COMPLETES THE SOFTBALL SWEEP WITH 9–11-YEAR-OLD DISTRICT TITLE

Massapequa International Little League’s 9–11-year-old softball team came into the District Championship game carrying more than just the pressure of a title match—they had the chance to complete a clean sweep of all three softball division banners for their league.

Facing a very strong North Bellmore North Merrick LL team, the game was knotted at 2–2 heading into the sixth inning. That’s when Massapequa International LL’s bats came alive, plating 4 runs in the top half of the frame to take a 6–2 lead. The defense did the rest, shutting down North Bellmore North Merrick LL in order in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families of Massapequa International Little League on a fantastic tournament run. Go make District 31 proud as you head into Sectionals and beyond!

Massapequa International Little League Wins 7th Straight District 31 Championship

With only three teams in this year’s field—Seaford, Merrick Bellmore, and Massapequa—it was truly anyone’s title to claim. But from the opening pitch, Massapequa International Little League made it clear they had no plans to give it up.

They opened the tournament with a dominant 10-0 win over Merrick Bellmore, setting the tone early. Next up was Seaford, who proved no match for the red-hot Massapequa squad, falling by a score of 19-2. That victory punched Massapequa’s ticket to the championship game for a rematch with Merrick Bellmore—and the outcome was nearly identical. Massapequa secured another decisive 10-0 win, clinching the title once again.

Massapequa International Little League is your 2025 District 31 Champion!

This marks the seventh straight championship banner for Massapequa in this division—adding 2025 to a streak that includes 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 (with no tournament held in 2020).

Congratulations to the players, coaches, and families on this incredible achievement. Best of luck as you continue your journey through the summer tournament trail. Make District 31 proud!

A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR BASEBALL DIVISIONS ON THEIR DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS

We would also like to recognize and congratulate the outstanding efforts of our baseball divisions, as multiple teams have brought home District banners this season:

  • Seniors Division: Massapequa Coast Little League captured the District title with a two-game sweep over Massapequa International Little League.

  • Intermediate (50/70) Division: Massapequa Coast LL once again bested Massapequa International LL in a two-game sweep to secure the District banner.

  • Juniors Division: In a dramatic and unforgettable finish, Massapequa Coast Little League edged out Massapequa International LL in a thrilling three-game series. With Coast holding a 1–0 lead in the top of the 7th of Game 3, International had runners on second and third and attempted a suicide squeeze. The batter popped up the bunt, which was caught by the catcher, who then doubled off the runner at third. One pitch later, a routine fly ball ended the game—capping off one of the most memorable endings to a District Championship in recent memory.

Massapequa Coast LL went on to win the Section 4 West Banner and will proudly represent District 31 in the New York State Tournament. We wish them the best of luck on their continued journey!
