Fall 2019 Rule Change
Starting Fall 2019 a new rule has been added. This rule is intended to encourage people to play with good sportsmanship and to help alleviate confrontation and arguments. This rule change was an idea that came from several members of the league and was voted on by the Leadership Group.
Calling Your Own Fouls: Any foul called by the referee is a Personal and Team Foul. Any foul called by a player, and only the player, will be a Team Foul and will not be considered a personal foul. Any time a referee and player call the same foul this will still be a personal foul. Any arguments regarding a foul will be under the judgement of the referee.
The point of this rule is to not punish the players who play the sport the right way with good sportsmanship. This is not a win at all cost kind of league. It is completely reasonable for people to play competitively while still trying to win, but also playing the game with the spirit of good sportsmanship. It is the leagues hope that this new rule will help foster better fellowship and better game play while helping limit confrontation. We all understand that it's unreasonable to expect that things will always go smoothly. No matter how you look at it we are still playing a game and everyone still wants to win, but let's also not forget that it's still just a game. Nobody remembers who won what game last year or how many points you scored. Remember what's important.

PCC Basketball MS Half Court Classic Success!!!!
The PCC Basketball Group participated in the MS Half Court Classic at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on March 23rd, 2019. 16 teams participated in the 4 Round Tournament that featured a co-ed set up with 5 players per team. PCC Basketball was represented by 5 players from the league and included Pete LaLonde, Ken Zaleski, Moe Allan, Bill Podborny, and Captain Michael Urnikis. Combined and with the help of the the PCC Basketball Group and the Palos Community Church the group was able to raise the second most of any other team in the tournament with $4,175 going to help get us all closer to a world free of Multiple Sclerosis.
The Tournament was 4 on 4 with 1 sub per team with two 10 minute halves. Each game was played at half court and had a NCAA referee to handle the game. The rules were pretty simple where on any transition of the ball the ball needs to be brought back behind the three point line with two feet. That also included turnovers. Any shooting foul gave the team one free throw and the ball which could help teams move and create a good run while also discouraging fouling or playing aggressive.
The PCC Basketball Group played well in the tournament. Game 1 was a match up against the Walsh Team "So You Want Another Lesson Shooting Hoops." In that game Moe Allan lead the offense in what turned

out to be a tough defensive match up. Bill Podborny and Pete LaLonde played excellent defense, but the game was low scoring which hurt the chances of either team moving on to the 3rd round since offensive point total was critical in moving on. Still PCC Basketball won the game with a fade away jump shot in the final minutes by Michael Urnikis to win 20-18.
Game 2 did not go as well for PCC Basketball. The team went up against a tougher Coyote Team which featured more height and some better shooters. The game started out rough with the Coyote's getting a quick 9-0 lead as the team made their first 6 shots from the field. Still some big plays from Bill Podborny and Moe Allan helped keep the game close enough for the PCC Basketball team to make a run in the second half lead by a scoring streak by Michael Urnikis, but it wasn't enough. At one point PCC Basketball was within 5 points but the offense for the Coyote's was simply red hot as they continued to hit a large number of 3's from the outside. Ken Zaleski shut down one of the best shooters and Moe Allan hit some great shots from the outside. In the end PCC Basketball lost 36-44.
PCC Basketball wants to thank everyone who supported them through the event and helped them raise money for a very important cause. As a whole the PCC Basketball Group should be very proud of the money they were able to raise that has benefited a lot of people who really needs help. Thanks again for everyone and god bless!

Hey Guys!
One the great new features of the website is that we can make great announcements like these! Congratulations to Rich Demma and his son for such exciting news!
Congratulations to Stagg Seniors MacKenzie Kazin and Andrew Demma for advancing to the ILMEA (Illinois Music Educators Assocation) State Festival scheduled for January 23-26 at the Peoria Civic Center. Mackenzie was selected for the All-State Chorus, Alto II and Andrew was selected for the Honors Chorus, Tenor II. This is quite an honor to be selected, given that Stagg is part of District I, the largest of the nine districts in the state of Illinois; encompassing a large portion of the southwest suburbs, the entire city of Chicago and over 2,000 students who audition!

Welcome to the New and Improved PCC Basketball Group!!

Welcome to 2019 and some big improvements for the 2019 PCC Basketball Seasons. We hope you enjoy the new league website which includes our schedule, statistics, forms, registration, teams, email reminders, apparel, and so much more. Even instructional videos and sports relevant articles. AND that's right you heard me. APPAREL! Check out the league Fan Shop to design your own PCC Basketball Group shirts, hats, and sweatshirts with proceeds going back to the league to help pay for things like this website. Try it out, it's pretty cool.
We are also rolling out the new group logo along with new jersey's. For over 15 years now we as a group of men, as young as 18 and as old as 68, have met on Monday nights to play basketball and enjoy fellowship while volunteering to help important causes. While a few players have been around for all 15 years, new players join every year. Thanks for joining us this year! We hope you enjoy all these great improvements and changes.
WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS GROUP?
We are not your normal basketball league which is the reason we call ourselves a Group and not a League. We don't believe that winning is everything. Before or after each game we take part in fellowship and a short devotion to talk about any number of topics with the intent of growing and being better people. We take pride in volunteering to help those in need. Although we are part of the Palos Community Church you do not have to be a part of the church to play in the league. But we do ask that you be willing to help out and get to know others in the group.
PLAYING BASKETBALL
We play three season each year. One in the Winter, Fall and Summer. Each season lasts around 12 weeks with 3 or 4 weeks in between seasons. The Winter and Fall season are for Adults and each season we have different teams. Captains are elected for each team and all players who are signed up are eligible to be drafted. Captains draft their teams in a snake type draft and are in charge of their teams.
Games are played 4 on 4 due to the size of the church gym. We only have one official and we follow your standard IHSA rules.
Our Summer league is unique because we allow for younger players to join as well. The summer league does not have an official but adults get the opportunity to play with their children who are old enough to play. High School and College age children play with their parents.
VOLUNTEER WORK
When it comes to the league we pride ourselves on helping others. We have helped during SON Weekend where we volunteer to help others who are less fortunate. We also take the time to find other volunteer opportunities to help people as much as we can.
LETS HAVE A GREAT YEAR!
We hope everyone is as excited about the big changes as we are. Here's hoping everyone has a wonderful 2019 and God watches over each and everyone of us to keep us health and safe.
