Some Little League History and Our Pen Argyl Little League Program

The Pen Argyl Little League was Chartered in 1954.

Between the years of 1949 and 1957, the state tournament was comprised of an eight-team, single elimination format, but only the state champion advances to the national tournament. Through 1956, Pennsylvania's state tournament doubles as the Region 3 tournament, and the Pennsylvania state champions advance directly to the Little League World Series. Significant growth in the number of leagues in Pennsylvania during this timeframe expands the number of districts, and means that the state's district champions must compete in sectional tournaments prior to advancing to the state tournament.

In 1957 Little League reorganizes the U.S. regional structure, and the Pennsylvania state champions no longer advance directly to the Little League World Series. Instead, the winner of the new four-team tournament earns a berth in the Eastern Region tournament. Pennsylvania is organized into 23 districts from the far Northwest corner of the state to the Philadelphia area.

At present there are 32 Districts and the Pen Argyl Little League is currently in District 29.

Here is a breakdown of the current Pen Argyl Little League program:

The Little League Program is comprised of children that live within the Pen Argyl School District Boundries. Teams are are selected in a "Draft" format for children between the ages of 9 to 12 year olds. New children to the program are "Drafted" to teams according to their skills in throwing, catching and batting by the current coaching staff with expierence between 4 and 20+ years in coaching youth sports. Once a child has been "Drafted" to a team that child remains on that team until they are to old and move to the next level of play.

Our Kid Pitch Program is comprised of children 7 and 8 years old, also for children ages 9 to 11 that need to work on basic skills required for our Little League program.

Our Coach Pitch program is comprised of children ages 4 to 6 and 7 year olds in their first year of playing organized baseball.
