CYO Region 21 –  Varsity A Rules

Game Limit: Teams are permitted to play 30 games and 4 scrimmages during the season. Any team that exceeds this limit will not be eligible for the Region 21 Playoffs or the Archdiocesan Tournament.

PIAA rules will be used for all games.

Length of Games: The game will consist of four (4) seven minute quarters. The clock will stop for all whistles. Halftime will be five minutes.  Overtime periods will 3 minutes and the clock will stop for all whistles. 

One and One foul shots will be awarded on the seventh (7th) team foul of each half and two (2) foul shots will be awarded on the tenth (10th) foul of each half. A player must leave the game when he or she receives their fifth (5th) personal foul.

Teams will be awarded three (3) full timeouts and two (2) thirty second timeouts per game. One additional timeout will be awarded for each overtime period.

Jump balls will only be used to start the game and to start each overtime period.

Pressing: Teams may press at all times.

Boys will use regulation men’s 29.5 size basketball.

Region 21 Playoffs:  All teams will qualify for the playoffs. Single elimination, bracket style.  Seed is determined by regular season record.  Tie Breakers: Head to Head record then points against, if needed.  The playoffs will start immediately at the conclusion of the regular season. The dates, times, locations and team match ups will be determined at a later date. 

If a team finishes the regular season undefeated then that team will get the automatic bid into the Archdiocesan Tournament and the #1 seed in the Region 21 playoffs.  The winner of the Region 21 Playoffs or the playoff runner-up, in the event the undefeated team wins the playoffs, will get the 2^nd bid into the Tournament.

There will be two (2) officials for each game. Each team will pay one referee before game begins.  Fee is $35.00
