RISSL Banquet and 2nd Annual Hall of Fame Induction
Sunday, October 15th was the revival of an indoor end-of-season banquet. After celebrating the season's end at City Park in Warwick the past 2 years, the tradition of a season's end banquet revived at Santa Maria Di Prata Society Hall in Cranston. The breakfast banquet was a combination of an awards ceremony honoring the current year season and playoff championship teams, and the 2nd annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Teams honored at the banquet were Natural Pet Cafe for winning the Division 1A season and playoffs, The Invaders for winning the Division 1B playoffs, Jordan's Sea Food for winning the Division 2 season, Action Auto Parts 65's for winning the Division 2 playoffs, Blue Cross for winning the Division 3 season and playoffs and Herb Chambers for winning the Division 3B playoffs.
At the conclusion of the breakfast the league conducted its 2nd Induction into its RI Senior Softball Hall of Fame. The event began with the presentation of Hall of Fame pullovers for last year's inductees. Receiving the pullovers were Joe Giordano, Pete DeMasi, Dick Bamford, George St. Vincent and Emil Notorantonio. The league will forward pullovers to John Murphy and Tony Rozzero who were not able to attend.
After these presentations it was time to induct the Class of 2023 into the RISSL Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame committee made up of Board member Dave Santagata, Emil Notorantonio, Dick Bamford, and Tony Rozzero selected 10 extremely worthy individuals. Nine of the 10 members of the class were inducted posthumously. Each of these honorees had their families in attendance to accept their Hall of Fame certificates. These nine individuals were: 1) Stanley Symkowicz inducted as a player and adminstrator category, 2) Ray Sewell inducted as a player, manager and sponsor, 3) Tom Dorgan in the player category, 4) Jed Schifino as a player and manager, 5) Tony Nastari as a player, 6) Norm O'Brien as a player, 7) Ralph Woodmansee as a player, manager and sponsor, 8) Ray Brum as a player and manager, and 9) Paul Mackie as a manager and sponsor. Also inducted was Lou Capirchio as a player, manager and administrator. Accepting the award for Lou, who was not able to attend, was his brother, Sal Capirchio.
