Runners family, this will be a busy weekend for us. We are hosting for all City Teams at our Home Park. Avalon. We ask that our parents be in attendance to support your babies just as strong as other teams support their babies at other parks. They are no better than us. We will not allow them to out do us, or have more people in the stands at our park for their support then we will. Since we are hosting, each of the coaches and administration will have things that need to be done at the park. We are asking that you handle the transportation this weekend as much as you can. We will assist the best we can but we will be shallow. For those who can help, we will need assistance with the door; scoring table; and concession. This will help us raise funds and keep our parents cost low.

Game times this weekend are as follows: Saturday 8:30am & 1:45pm. Sunday 9:15am & 11:45am...

We (Coaches and Staff) will be in the park from 8-5 each day. Volunteer the time that fits you between these hours. GO RUNNERS!!!!

Chicago Runner Direction 2019

(As of now, we will no longer practice Varsity at Avalon Park. Check the new practice schedule)

Runner family,

I am Coach Terence Hood from the Chicago Stars. The Stars have been around Chicago Basketball for years and been out of Avalon Park for 13. The Stars have many tropheys, awards, accomplishments, recognitions, and contacts. I have been involved with basketball all over the country on the highest levels, thanking my NBA Training from my mentor Tim Grover. NBA basketball camps and training down to French Fry Basketball with Joe Bussle. My resume can be found online and my work can be found around the city in high schools, jr high schools, grade schools, history books, IHSA Stats, newspapers, videos. Im very qualified.

It is my full interest to help the Runners change the direction that it has been going in for the last few seasons. With that being said I am going to need the help of the parents in this change. In the previous years the conversation to compete has been spoken but the actions to compete have been avoided. The definition of insanity is doing the same things and expecting different results. In the past i have noticed that many parents and players don't fully have the dedication that it takes to build a championship brand. But in the same breath I blame that on the confidence of the direction that the parents had in the previous staff (or lack there-of). Not the staff itself. Just the direction.

Winning starts with a plan and then is followed by co-operating with that plan. Lets get this straight.... Don't tell me,'its all about the kids having fun and too much pressure is put on winning these days'.... When a coach says that to me I simply see him as a coach that can't win because he doesn't know how. SHOW ME ANY GROUP OF KIDS HAVING FUN WHILE LOSING GAME AFTER GAME AND BEING HUMILIATED BY THE OTHER KIDS. THERE IS NO FUN IN THAT. Fun comes in the ability to compete. We will not be a foot stool for winning teams. Your son will not be emotionally damaged and bullied going to get a hot dog at the venues where we play. He will be trained. He will be ready. Together, the organization and the parents involved will be looked at with respect and dignity.

Take a look at the winning teams. The winning teams have parent support. Parent participation. Parent booster clubs picking up children and dropping them off. Parents bringing their kids and actually getting involved. Being their kids #1 fan. It is not a good look for an organization that has no parental support. With a coach dragging around 4-5 kids packed in his car hoping that the rest of the team will show up, or another coach has 4-5 kids in his car so that they can play without forfeit. Buying 10 kids something to eat weekly with his money because he is running a basketball daycare for 4-5 hours each day, each weekend. Check this example: Game is at 11. He has to leave his home at 9 to pick up 3 kids in 3 different locations and be at the game on time. Play the game. Usually 30 minutes to an hour. Now he has to drop kids off. Buy them something to eat because they have been gone all day. He's going to get back home 2 hours later after the game. Often times while dropping a kid off, the kid says its the house with my brothers blue van in front of it, or pull up by my daddy's Cadillac, or that's my Momma's Range Rover right there.... Sometimes a ride is needed and your coach is willing. But every time? He never has a ride? You never see his people? Mom hasn't paid anything on the fee. Dad hasn't paid anything on the fee. He has on the latest spotless Nikes. Kyries, LaBrons. We leave to go to Florida and this same kid has $200 for spending money and so he wont lose it you tell the kid to have the coach hold it for you. Family!!!! We gotta do better.

We definitely want to avoid that. Even bringing these things up in this statement has some folks thinking offensively. If this was you change it. If its not you dont start. We wont have that this season. This is not a personal attack on any 1 parent or 2. Don't make it that. What this is are the things that can not happen in any organization that wants to be on a winning track. These are losing components. So this season we want to go out with the old, if that's whats been happening, and in with the new. If this is the activity that you want to regulate your coaches to, then you can't expect too much in the winning category from a chaperon or counselor because he's no longer a coach. OK. Enough of that... But on the other hand if you meet us a quarter of the way, your kids will be singing a different song. You will be proud parents instead of the parents avoiding the venue knowing your kids are destined to lose.

I am fully aware that nobody had faith in our Florida trip last April, 2018. Many felt that The Chicago Runners were just going to be going. We had been losing all season. Rickey, Allen, Kionta, Jermain, Nasir, Amarion, Anthony, Donta, Jason, Malachi,  Won a few in the end but for the most part had already been counted out. But what was done by the boys that had faith in the program was shocking. Beating other states and teams by 20 and 30 point blowouts. Losing only 1 close game by 6. Coming home back to Chicago with the International Friendship Championship Trophey. First Place. Installing respect in Philly, Jerzy, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, Florida, our parents, our kids, and our program. This season I want to see you on board!! We can continue to change this program around instantly. Make it what we want it to be and not accept what is left for a program to die. Return it to its glory. Reinstall the pride and the winning spirit that it deserves.   Chicago Runners!!! 2019 Lets Get It
