Regionals update

Final write up


 This past weekend was Regionals held at Souderton High School. The Panthers brought 2 wrestlers Devon Moorre and Lee Holbert.


Devon Moore – 152

Friday night was the first round of wrestling, Devon faced L.J. Kahn  from Council Rock South. The match was fast paced; with Devon working for a takedown, Kahn was good on his feet and took the match with a score of 7-0.

Saturday was the first round of wrestle backs. Devon had Daniel Labus from West Chester Rustin, the match went through the first period scoreless but Devon was working so Labus got a stall call. Second period Labus took top, Devon was able to stand up, score was 1-0 going into the third. Third period Devon chooses neutral, to work for the takedown and possibly a second stall call. Only 30 seconds into the third period Devon and Labus were in a scramble that went out of bounds. Devon did not get up from the fall and had to forfeit the match due to injury.

            Devon is a senior who has a varsity record of 27-9 , and a career record of 66-37.

 Lee Holbert – 285

Friday night Lee has his first round match against Nick Cooper from Bensalem. The first period was scoreless. Seond period Lee chose bottom, Cooper pulled him back when Lee went to sit out, Cooperwon by pin early in the second period.

Saturday in the first round of wrestle backs Lee had Ryan Cody from North Penn. The match was close, both wrestlers kept the match going in neutral. Cody was able to score a stand up and 2 takedowns to win over Lee 5-2.

            Lee is a Junior with a varsity record of 26-14.



120 Joe Andraos

Joe had only one match this past Saturday; it was a pigtail against Zach Rozanski from Upper Perkiomen. Joe went out and fought hard, but gave up a fall late in the second period. 

Joe is a sophomore who had a varsity record of 19-14.



138 Sasha Reiger

 Sasha started Saturday with a pigtail match against Jarek Svanson from Upper Perkiomen. Sasha was dealing with an elbow injury; he tried his hardest in his match but ended up getting pinned halfway through the second period.

Sasha is a junior and has a varsity record of 16-13.   


145 John Crawford

John had a pigtail match against Boyertown’s Evan Mortimer. John wrestled a tough six minutes, only giving up 4 points in the match, John lost 4-1.

            John is a sophomore with a varsity record of 20-13.




152 Devon Moore

Devon’s first match was in the quarter final round against Ben D’Arcangelo from Spring-Ford. Devon wrestled a full six minutes, wining the match 7-0. Semifinals match against Chris Barry from Boyertown; the match went the full six minutes with Barry taking the match 3-1. Devon dropped down to the consolation semifinals to face Zaire Tucker from Norristown. After Tucker scored an early takedown, Moore rallied back to win the match 9-3. Consolation final match, Moore faced Roman Moser from Methacton. Moser won the match 7-3.

            Devon took 4th place and will be moving on to Regionals held at Souderton high school held on March 3&4.






285 Lee Holbert

Lee started Saturday with a pigtail match against Robert Rosado from Upper Perkiomen; Lee won via pin in 1:20 of the first period. Lee wrestled Tonee Ellis from Methacton, the match lasted six minutes with Lee coming out on top winning 3-1. Semi final match Lee wrestled Goodman from Marple Newton, Lee was winning the match until early in the third period. Goodman escaped, got a takedown and then pinned Lee late in the third. Consolation Semi-finals Lee wrestled Scott Jean from Conestoga Lee won the match 8-2. Consolation Finals Lee wrestled Matt Lepore from Spring-Ford. The match started slow, but picked up speed, Lee was up 3-2, when Lepore went out of bounds in a scuffle. Lepore hurt his arm and the ref stopped the match due to injury.

            Lee took 3rd place and will be moving onto Regionals held at Souderton high school held on March 3&4.

Post season- Central League tournament

This weekend was the Central Leagues postseason tournament.

 Some of our Panthers went out with a BANG and some are moving onto the district tournament held at Springford high school on 2/25/2017

 106 – Ian Lembo started the day with a pigtail match. Ian went out and won the match 16-8. Ian’s following match was against DelViscio from Penncrest he lost via pin in the first period. In the consolation bracket Ian had his last match of the season vs. Toll from Conestoga, final score 4-1.

            Great season for the Sophomore Ian Lembo, he finished the season 15-14.

 113 – Nick Lambert started the day with a pigtail; Nick lost the bout via pin early in the second period.

             Nick is a junior and was a first year wrestler; he had a varsity record of 7-15.

 120 – Joe Andraos started the morning with a tough match against Conlon from Garnet Valley, Joe worked hard and pulled 4 stall calls to help him win the match 6-1. Semifinals vs. Lesser from Harriton, Joe lost the bout 6-5. Dropping down to the consolation bracket, Joe wrestled Islam from Upper Darby, Joe was down but tried to rally back, Joe lost the match 13-9.  In the match for 5th/6th Joe won via forfeit.

 Joe placed 5th will be moving onto the district tournament.


126 – Zach Mongon had a pigtail match against Hopkins from Upper Darby, Zach was pinned earl in the second period.

      Zach is a sophomore with a varsity record of 6-7.


 132 – Sasha Reiger had a tough first round against regional qualifier Julius Starkey,  late in the 3rd period Sasha lost by tech fall. Dropping down to the consolation bracket Sasha won his match 6-3.

 Sasha will be moving on to the district tournament


 138 – Vinnie Griffin had a pigtail match, in the first period Vinnie lost by pin.

      Vinnie is a sophomore with a varsity record of 1-5

   145 – John Crawford had a quarterfinal match it was vs. Forbes from Springfield Delco, John won the match 5-4. Semi final match vs. Ryan Stocku, John had a tough battle that he lost 8-1. Dropping down to the consolation bracket Crawford wrestled Walker, it was a close match and Walker came out on top with a 12-7 win. Wrestling for 5th/6th Crawford went out and won his match 8-2 over Tarawallie from Upper Darby.

 John placed 5th and will move onto the district tournament.

 152 – Devon Moore started his quarterfinal match with a bang; Cooper from Ridley was defeated via tech fall early in the 3rd period. Semi final match vs. McAdams from Haverford, Moore won via major decision 13-0. In the finals, Devon faced Max Livingston from Upper Darby. In the first period the match was scoreless until the last 15 seconds when Livingston scored a takedown. Second period Moore chose down, after numerous attempts he was not able to stand up, no score change. Third period Livingston chose bottom, Devon rode on top and kept him down for a minute, Livingston stood up and got one. With one minute left neither wrestler scored again. Final score 3-0 for Livingston.

        Devon placed second and will be wrestling in the district tournament.


 160 – Jon Morris had a pigtail in which he went out and pinned his opponent Shaak from Ridley in the second period. Quarterfinal match Morris lost by decision 8-4 to Bupp from Radnor. In the consolation bracket Jon Morris had a tought fought bout, with four seconds left on the clock, Jon lost control and his opponenet stood up to take a one point lead, he lost the match 7-6.

Jon is a junior with a varsity record of 12-14.

 170 – Bryan Boyer started the morning with a pigtail match against Elken from Conestoga, Boyer won the bout 8-5. In the quarterfinals Boyer faced Senior Mong from Haverford, Boyer lost by fall in the first period. Dropping down to the consolation bracket, Bryan had a close match against Toriello from Ridley, Boyer lost the match 3-1.

             Bryan is a junior with a record of 8-14.

 285 - Lee Holbert’s first match was in the quarterfinals against Jean from Conestoga, Lee won the bout 9-2. In the semifinals Holbert was thrown by Sheldon from Ridley, Lee was pinned in the first period. Dropping down to the consolation bracket, Holbert faced Amouzougan from Upper Darby, Lee pinned him early in the second period. Consolation finals, Lee faced Jean from Conestoga again, result of the match was 4-0.

          Lee finished 3rd in the tournament and will be moving onto districts.


End of season update


This past Saturday we had the Panther duals! The tournament was a huge success. The team went 2-1. The first match against Academy Park was a brawl to the end, starting at 145 and finishing at 138. Big pins from Cameron Yarborough, Nick Lambert, and Joe Andraos scoreing the Panthers 18 points. With two forfeits from the Panthers and Academy Park firing back with four pins of their own it was over. Final score 45-34.

The second match was against Overbrook. The panthers had a healthy lead with the four forfeits coming from Overbrook. Pins from John Crawford, Devon Moore, and Joe Andraos was enough to keep the lead. Final score 57-24.

    The third match was against Martin Luther King. Starting off the match Cameron Yardborough won his third match of the day via pin. Other pins from Lee Holbert, Ian Lembo, Joe Andraos, and Zach Mongon gave the panthers a lead. Decisions from John Crawford and Devon Moore allowed the Panthers to win the match 42-33.


 Looking back to last week we had our last home meet against Marple Newton. Starting the match off at 113 Marple was up 6 from a forfeit. A decision from Joe Andraos, a tech fall from John Crawford, and to pins from Devon Moore and Bryan Boyer was not enough to take the lead. Panthers lost 54-20.


1/1/2017 Dual meet @ Radnor

This week the Panthers were away at Radnor. The meet started off at heavyweight, Lee Holbert went out and pinned his opponent in the first period. After an exchange of forfeits, first year wrestler Nick Lambert got another hard fought win. The match went on with wins from Joe Andraos, Dalton Zweier, John Crawford, and a big pin from captain Devon Moore. The upper weight classes held on through some tough matches and after two more forfeits from the Panthers, the team won.          Final score 34-31.


Garnet Valley Match

This Wednesday the Panthers were away at Garnet Valley. It was their senior night, starting out at the low weight classes GV started off strong, Joe Andraos came up with a pin in the 3rd period. After a forfeit and a couple of tough fought matches, Devon Moore went out and had a thrilling match. Pinning his opponent in the 3rd period the meet moved on. Garnet Valley took the meet after receiving 2 forfeits from the Panthers. Final score 69-12.


Winter Break Update

This upcoming Wednesday we are away at Garnet Valley and Saturday home for Cardinal O’Hara.


Denver duals 0-5   - 1/21   

Going out to district 3 the Panthers were faced with tough opposition. In round 1 against garden spot the team lost 50-20. Round 2 against northern Lebanon was a rude awakening for the team, with its first ever shut out. Round 3 was a much closer battle, giving up 2 weight classes put a hurting on the team score, but great bouts were had by Ian Lembo, Sasha Reiger, Devon Moore, and Zach Newlon.  After a bye in round 4, we started round 5 against Downingtown East, the end result was a loss 46-31. The final round against East Pensboro, started in the Panthers favor with big wins in the lower weight classes but ended in a battle lost in the upper weight classes, EP won 42-33.


Interboro  senior night - 1/17

The night started by honoring the 3 seniors on the team, Devon Moore, Zach Newlon, and Elise Weber and the accomplishments they have achieved. To start the night the Panthers gave up 2 weight classes (195& 220) and were in a 12 point deficit. Lee Holbert, Joe Andraos, and john Crawford pinned their opponents making it a close match. In the last few matches the panthers were edged out losing 37-33.



Garnet Valley JV Tournament - 1/14 

At the Garnet Valley JV tournament, we brought 8 wrestlers, all who fought until the end. Brain Boyer walked out with a dominating 1st place win and Dalton Zweier lost in the second round but battled back for his 3rd place medal.



Harriton  - 1/13

Harriton brought a light team which lead to only 7 match ups for the evening, the captains stepped up and pinned their way to victory. Panthers won 57- 15.

Lower Merion - 1/11    

Back in the home of the Panthers, the team won against Lower Merion. With only six matches wrestled the team was rested and ready for Friday night against Harriton. Panthers won 39-28.


Conestoga - 1/3

Coming off of a great run at Delco Duals, the Panthers cooled off during winter break. Losing to Conestoga at an away meet 54-23.

Redemption at Delco Duals

After a slow start of 0-5 as a team, we bounced back and responded with a dominating 5-0 performance to win Delco Duals  and bring our team record to 5-5. Big performances came from returning wrestler Brett Burns who went undefeated, along with fellow captains Zach Newlon, Devon Moore, and Sasha Reiger who finished 5-0 on the day.  First year wrestler Nick Lambert also received his first varsity win on the day! 


Strath Haven Wrestlers grind through Colley Classic

The team sent 10 Varsity wrestlers to the Colley Classic and ended up with 5 in the Championship finals.  John Crawford, Jon Morris, and Lee Holbert ended a great day with 2nd place finishes.  Captains Devon Moore and Zach Newlon finished as tournament Champions.  It was a great day for everyone involved.  Overall Strath Haven finished the team race in 5th place.

Crawford gets first varsity win, as Strath Haven Tops Springfield


Freshman John Crawford was one of many Strath Haven wrestlers to step up and fight hard against Springfield.

Strath Havens hard work paid off with a 44-27 win.
