In their final MEC Conference Tournament, your Smithville Warrior Wrestlers went out in style by crowning 7 individual champions! JT O'Rourke got the party started by pinning 3 of his 4 opponents as he rolled to the title at 106 lbs. Jared Thornbrugh went 3-1 and made it to the finals, placing 2nd at 126 lbs. Blake Ackerman (132 lbs) and Mitchell Bohlken (138 lbs) dominated their weight classes, as they both went 5-0 and pinned all 10 opponents to win their respective classes. Mason Hedgecorth (145 lbs) pinned his first 3 opponents, setting up a title match with Kayne Lamison of Cameron, who came into the match with a 35-14 record. Hedgecorth ground out a 1-0 win to take home his first MEC title! Senior Nick Bollinger continued his stellar season by going 4-0 with 3 pins and a Tech Fall to win the title at 152 lbs. Zack Stanford went 3-1 at 160 lbs to finish in a three way tie; Zack won on criteria, bringing home his first MEC title! At 182 lbs, Eldon Miller fought through a tough group to finish in 3rd place. Brian Boyd brought home the final title of the day, going 4-0 and winning the 195 lb weight class. Daeton Bone (113), Landon Hinds (170), Cody McKimens (220) and Cody Fisher (285) all competed as well, and the team brought home their 5th MEC title in the past 6 years! Congratulations Warriors!!

Another exciting season of Smithville Warrior Wrestling is just around the corner! Your Warrior Wrestlers are looking to continue an amazing run that has included the following accomplishments:
MEC Conference Champions 4 of the past 5 seasons!
District Champions the past 2 seasons!
4 straight seasons with a top 4 Team finish at the State Tournament!
4 straight seasons with multiple individual State Champions!
As the Warriors enter their last season in the Midland Empire Conference, they will once again prepare themselves in a familiar fashion... with a brutal schedule that includes road trips to three new events:
Independence, Iowa, on Friday and Saturday, Dec 1st and 2nd
Jenks, Oklahoma, on Saturday, January 5th
Branson, Missouri, on Saturday, January 13th
The team will also see some familiar 'tough faces' with home duals against Oak Grove, Kearney, and Grain Valley, and will once again compete locally in the Kansas City Stampede- one of the toughest tournaments in the nation!
Several Warrior Wrestlers will get a jump on the season in the coming weeks, competing in October at the Staley HS "Fall Brawl", and also at the "Preseason Nationals" Tournament in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Additionally, Senior Alex Rivera is set to compete at the "Super 32" tournament in Greensboro, North Carolina! Good luck Alex!
