SGBL League Cancellation Information

April 21, 2017

Dear Valued SGBL Participants,

Season after season, teams from The Coastal Empire, Low Country and surrounding counties have honored the South Georgia Basketball League’s timeless traditions: Hard work, teamwork and competition.  Primary to these traditions is our vision to grow and develop young people for the their next level in athletics. For the above mission and because of you (our participants), the SGBL has been successful!

Unfortunately, it takes more than vision to run the SGBL. It takes money and those fees are increasing. Until this season, fees to enter the SGBL have only covered officials and the offsetting of rental fees. Monies collected at the gate pay for: Game day staff, awards, gym rental, and the fees required to maintain the league website. Due to overall fee increases, the SGBL must cover the following items (which cannot be outsourced). Fees apply to each night and each site.

·         Increase in rental fees

·         Custodial fees

·         Use of Clock

·         SCCPSS Resource Officers

·         Additional game day workers

·         GHSA Certified Officials

At this rate, monies collected from each team and at the gate will not offset the cost of the new fees. In addition, we think it untimely to increase the entrance fees for teams. In an attempt to provide our SGBL coaches and athletes with a platform to recreate and sharpen their skills, the SGBL will still run – just not this season. Moving forward, the cost of league participation will increase; however, teams will have ample time to prepare. If you have already paid your monies for this season, they will be returned to you in the method in which you made your payment within 5-7 business days.

We thank you for your commitment to the SGBL and apologize for any inconvenience. We look forward to working with you in the many seasons to come. The SGBL will be hosting a series of weekend tournaments in May & June.

With Sincerest Appreciation,

Terry T. Hines

SGBL Commissioner
