We need volunteers to help make this tournament successful.  As the host of the tournament, we need to cover concession/admission and clock for all games.  We are also accepting baked goods for the concession stand.  Please sign up as much as you can.  We recommend that you sign up before or after your child's game so you are able to watch their game.

We can't do this without you!

About St. Matthew's CYO Basketball League

 Age Groups and Levels:

The levels we have for CYO this season are as follows - players will be placed on a level based upon their grade level and their experience level:

Kindergarten -  We will be offering a basketball program for boys and girls at the kindergarten level.  This program will be geared toward focusing on FUNdamentals of basketball. All sessions will take place on Saturday mornings for about 45 minutes in the Voorheesville Elementary School - small gym.

PeeWee - this is for 1st and 2nd grade boys and girls - it is meant to be an introduction to basketball with focus primarily on skills development and some understanding of the rules of the game.   Typically, there will be skills competitions but very few "games".  Depending on the progress of the players, a couple of light competitive scrimmages may be played during the latter part of the season.  Practices are generally on Saturday mornings, and run from November through February.

House league - this is for 3rd and 4th grade boys and girls.  Focus is continued development of skills via practices and weekly games.  There are usually about 10 games starting on Saturday mornings (all at the Elem school large gym) between other house league teams.  This is typically for players to become more comfortable with the game via lower pressure game situations.   Practices will be on weeknights throughout the season, and on Sat mornings until the games begin in late Dec or January.

Third and Fourth grade travel teams - this is for boys (3rd and 4th) and for girls (4th) - format is practices 1-2 times per week, with games on Saturdays and Sundays - total games around 15-20.  Teams will have both home games as well as travel games.  Travel games will be against teams throughout the Capital District.  Team sizes are limited and if appropriate, players may be placed onto a house league team in order to gain more experience.

5-8th grade Travel teams - this is for boys and girls - practices are generally 2-3 times per week, games on Saturdays and Sundays.  Teams are selected based on playing ability.  Total games will range from around 20 or so at the younger level, to over 30 at the older level, depending on the coach and competition.  Teams will have both home games as well as travel games.  Travel games will be against teams throughout the Capital District.
