Thurston Babe Ruth 2019 Tryouts

Thurston Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken baseball tryouts will be held February 9th & 10th at the Thurston High School baseball field house. Each player must attend two sessions, and will not be allowed to attend a third, unless requested by a coach for further evaluation. There will be no open session. Each player must register prior to evaluations.

Each player will be given a number and a safety pin to place on the front of their shirt. Numbers must be visible at all times during evaluations.

Required before Tryouts:

-Player registration (done online)

-Player/parent contract (included with online registration)

The following forms are required at the first session attended at tryouts:

-Electric/utility bill with current address (This is required to verify the player lives in the Thurston High School boundaries)

-COPY of birth certificate (this will be verified and handed back to you)

-If you reside outside THS boundaries copy of report card/request waiver (**please email Thurstonbaberuth@gmail.com if this applies to you before tryouts)

 

Try out times:

February 9th, 2019 Saturday:

8:00-9:00 am &1:30-2:30 pm AGES 9 AND UNDER 9:30-11:00 am & 2:30-4:00 pm AGES 10-12

11:30-1:00 & 4:00-5:30 pm 7th & 8th GRADE (INCLUDING 12 YEAR OLD 7TH GRADERS)

February 10th, 2019 Sunday:

11:00am-12:00 pm AGES 9 & UNDER

12:00-1:00 pm AGES 10-12

1:00-2:00 pm 7th & 8th GRADE (INCLUDING 12 YEAR OLD 7TH GRADERS)

 

What to bring:

Baseball gear, tennis shoes (required), cleats (optional), sweatshirt, and water

****Cleats are not allowed in batting cages****

What not to bring:

Do not wear Thurston or WVBR All Star hats or jerseys

No Sunflower seeds or gum

We will NOT accept player fees at try outs. Player fees are collected at

uniform fittings on (TBD)

What to expect at try outs:

Players will be evaluated in three areas; infield, outfield, and hitting by the Thurston High School baseball coaching staff. They will also be looking for attitudes, effort, and potential.

Try outs are open to parents, but no interaction is allowed while player is being evaluated. Parents are not allowed on any part of the baseball fields at any time.

How are teams formed?

After the second day of evaluations, the TBR board and coaches meet to form teams. Scores and comments are tallied and sorted. Teams are formed according to the WVBR guidelines. Coaches will contact each player to inform player of placement when teams are finalized. If not placed on a Thurston team, he/she may enter pool play with WVBR.

7th and 8th graders MUST try out as one group regardless of age. (12 year old 7th graders are not allowed to try out for Majors, although they may be placed at that level)

Teams are as follows:

Cal Ripken /Ages 7-12 or 6th grade; Rookie Minor, Rookie Major, AA, AAA, Major Minor, and Majors

Babe Ruth /Ages 12-15 or 7th & 8th grade; Prep American, Prep National

Fees: -Due at uniform fittings, (TBD)

Rookies $150

AA-Prep $200

Change to Area of Participation Guidelines

 

This past season, Babe Ruth League, Inc. changed the national rule regarding area participation of eligibility. Players may now participate in an area for where they now attend school, or have submitted a legitimate request to attend school in a specific area.

If you have a player that lives out of Thurston boundaries but is currently attending a Thurston High School feeder Elementary or Middle School (Thurston Elementary, Ridgeview, Thurston Middle) or you plan on submitting a request to transfer to Thurston High School (8th graders) please notify us at Thurstonbaberuth@gmail.com before tryouts on Feb 14/15th so that we can review your request and ensure it will meet the criteria to play for Thurston Babe Ruth.

 

 


 

 


Coaches: Get ahead of the game and complete your Babe Ruth Coaching Certification.

Willamette Valley Babe Ruth requires that all coaches obtain a Babe Ruth Coaching Certification. For coaches that have already satisfied this requirement, you are not required to take the course again.
