VELOCITY HISTORY

History of Velocity

The first Velocity team was formed during the summer of 2000 when the Velocity founders became aware that counties across Florida formed and supported travel teams out of their respective recreational leagues to play competitive fast pitch softball after their recreational season ended.  Our county Leaguerette and League Softball programs did not support such a program. Our first team was formed with players from the North Tampa Leaguerettes by Bob Gambino. The founders of Velocity worked diligently with Hillsborough County to bring travel club softball to the Leaguerette and League softball programs in Hillsborough County. After carefully researching the dismay of other travel club sports organizations and the need for travel club softball within our softball recreational leagues Velocity laid the foundation for this very unique organization.

Velocity was established and developed to support recreational leagues and offer low cost club travel softball to all that wish to participate provided they are enrolled in a recreational league program. With the closing of the Town and Country Leaguerettes, the Velocity organization was requested by Hillsborough County to re-establish a community softball program. The Town and Country Leaguerettes name and reputation was not embraced well in the community however the Velocity name had gained recognition. The Town and Country Leaguerettes was the first organization merged into the Velocity organization. The Town and Country Leaguerette program had 36 registered players in the program when Velocity first merged the organization. Today over 6800 girls participate in Velocity programs in 8 states making Velocity one of the largest girls’ softball programs in the nation. Today Velocity’s largest program is our recreational softball program. Velocity’s unique style and development of players creates the foundation in recreational softball and acts as a feeder system to those who want more competitive play in our travel club programs. Velocity recreational leagues have experience robust growth and continuance utilizing travel club softball and the Velocity name.

Velocity has successfully placed over 100 players to the NCAA and NAIA to play college softball. And although Velocity has grown and developed unique systems for success, we have not forgotten that softball starts with having a successful recreational league program as a foundation for success.
