LEAGUE MISSION STATEMENT

SPORTSMANSHIP

“IT’S A SPORT”
“BE A SPORT”

Athletic competition, at the community recreation level, can be a rewarding lifetime activity.

ALUMNI SOFTBALL LEAGUE LLC. endeavors to provide a safe and enjoyable experience that is worthy of the time                                 and money expended and an activity which can be enjoyed by an entire family.
The end product, or the quality of the experience, will rest with the attitude each participant brings to the contest.

As a league, we hope the individual competitors will rely on an old standard sportsmanship. Compete hard and compete within the rules. What society might see at the college or professional level does not necessarily enhance the experience at the community level. When the moment of frustration rears its head experience the moment and move on with the contest.

Remember, enjoy the recreational activity for just what it is
"A GAME". Pursue victory with honor.

2012 ALL STAR GAME

August 11, 2012

ALUMNI SOFTBALL CO-ED LEAGUE

East Beats West 2 years in a row with a thriller in the
4th Annual All Star Game

On a very sunny and warm day at the Wagner College Softball Complex in Grymes Hill, the 4th annual Alumni Coed All Star game was about to take place. Twenty six players lined up on their respective foul lines ready to take the field of battle for bragging rights. The West squad led by manager Michael Fiore was awarded home field advantage due to the championship being won by their division. Fiore was ready to lead players that represented The FiOrioes, Blazers, Dirty Minds, and Richmond County Ambulance.

On the other side of the field manager Vincent Ventrone was ready to lead the East with his players representing: Bench Warmers, Cobra Kai, Damage Athletics, James Vuricko's Ball Busters, and Pepper Jack Grill.

Danny Modica (Dirty Minds) took the mound for the West and was locked up in a pitchers duel with the East's Amy Janicke (Pepper Jack Grill). Six innings were in the book with just a combined 6 hits recorded and no runs. The East finally broke through in the top of the 6th when Brian Kurella (Pepper Jack Grill) ripped a 2-out double passed Kristen Liberatore (Dirty Minds) and into left field driving home 2-runs giving the East a 2-0 lead. Yacenia Young (Damage Athletics) took over on the mound trying to record the All Star game's first save. Dave Quesada (Dirty Minds) entered the game in the 7th looking to keep the East off the board as they tried to mount a comeback. Young made sure that comeback never happened.

In the 9th inning the West put the tying runs on board, but and shallow pop up and a line drive double play ended the rally and the game giving the East the 2-0 victory.
Amy Janicke picked up her 2nd career All Star victory (2011 & 2012) while Danny Modica took the loss. Yacenia Young picked up the save pitching a solid 4 innings in relief.

Brian Kurella (Pepper Jack Grill) picked up the Most Valuable Player award for the winning East squad with his 2-run game winning double. Carlos Juarte (RC Ambulance) picked up the MVP for the West with his 2-4 (2-singles) day. This day was about pitching and all 4-hurlers made sure of it. Only Juarte recorded a multi hit game for both teams.

Over-all it was a beautiful day for softball and more then 40-fans were there to witness the best All Star game to date.

This officially ends the 2012 Alumni Coed Softball spring season where we saw some great things.
What a better way to end it with such an exciting All Star event
See you in the Fall!!!

5th Annual Alumni Softball League Coed All Star Game

On a beautiful and sunny 87 degree on Saturday August 10, 2013, 35 of Alumni Softball League’s best came together to compete in the League’s 5th annual All Star extravaganza!

Teams that represented the East All Stars were The FiOrioles, James Vuricko’s Ball Busters, The Nightmares, and Pepper Jack Grill. The West All Stars were represented by Platinum Mortgage, Damage Athletics, The Benchwarmers, and The Ginger Bread Learning Center.

Over 35 people were in attendance to watch the festivities kick off with the Boy Scouts troop 43 of Rosebank presenting the colors of America. Briana Buttermark then came on and sung a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. All the players were lined up on their respective foul lines paying their respects to our great country.

Stu Pfeffer, League Commissioner, surprised everyone and brought in a public address announcer who sounded like the late great Bob Sheppard. All the players and fans got a kick out of it. Some of the players used their phones to record their introductions as they ran onto the field. Joanne Pfeffer, Stu’s wife, threw out the first pitch and the game was on its way.

Danny Modica (Pepper Jack Grill) took the mound for the East and pitched masterfully over 5-innings allowing no runs on 3 hits while striking out 2 batters, and picking up the victory. This outing was definitely a self redemption game as Modica was the losing pitcher in the 2012 All Star game. On the other side of the lines Damage Athletics hurler Luis Soto pitched 7 innings and was victimized by 2 un-timely errors that led to a total of 14 runs to score. Gina Palmeri (JV’s Ball Busters) pitched the final 4-frames allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out the game’s final batter on her way to the save. The save marked the 3rd straight All Star game in which a pitcher has recorded one. The West’s final hurler was Rafael Lora (Damage Athletics) who had the pleasure of pitching to his daughter who was the catcher for the West (Marisol Paulino/Damage Athletics).  Lora pitched the final 2 innings allowing 1-run on 2 hits in the 15-2 loss.    Many players had standout games including The FiOrioles Steve Napalitano who was 4-5 with 2 runs batted in. Eric Dini (JV’s Ball Busters) raked 4 hits in 5 at bats while scoring 3 runs and driving home 1. But, it was Paul Kosinksi who took home the All Star MVP going 3-5 with an all star record 4 runs batted in. For the West Siegfried Prieto (Ginger Bread) was 2-3 with a run batted in, while Peter DeSanti (Platinum Mortgage)  took home the All Star MVP honors went 1-4 while scoring a run and driving in the team’s 1st of two runs on the day.        Umpires for the game were Brian Tooker & Mike Alesia

After two hours and 6 minutes the teams came together at mid field for the traditional handshakes then posed for their team photos. The All Star game had a beautiful rendition of GOD Bless America performed in the 7th inning   by Kortney Galyas a Hurricane Sandy survivor.

A special thanks goes out to Kevin Nasta for doing an excellent job organizing this extravaganza .

The 2014, All Star Game will be on Saturday August 9,2014.  There will be a female only HOME RUN DERBY-
