Student Survey
All student in grades 5 - 11 will take part in a very important survey through the school. This survey is being put out by Mr. Brooks the High School principal to find out what the interest is in adding soccer as a High School sport.
The survey is very simple, it asks the kids what sport would they like to play in the fall in the high school. They can only choose one. Football, Cross Country, Soccer, Golf.
Please talk to your student about this survey. It is very important for us to have it filled out correct.
We feel by this survey the school board is going to see what we have been trying to convince them all along, kids want to play soccer in High School!!!
If you have any questions I can be reached at 841-1932 or email Hack1sjo@aol.com
Donations
The St. Joseph Soccer Club wants to thank Jeff Fewell and Dick's Sporting Goods for the donation of 10, # 4 soccer balls! We needed more and he was able to donate them to us. Thank you Jeff
Do you have extra pairs on cleats or shin gaurds that the kids have out grown? You can donate cleats and shin gaurds to the soccer club. We will get those into the hands of kids that could use them!
Please email Hack1sjo@aol.com for more information.
Check here first
If the weather is in question on game day, check here first!
As soon as we know if the game is cancelled or going to be played we will post it here.
The Urbana hot line number is 367-9575
But remember, if you have a 9:00am game you may still need to go to the field. They may not call it off until the very last minute.
As soon as we know we will post it here.
Adding a Rules section
I am going to add a new section in the Bulletin Board.
It will contain rules. I will try to post new ones often.
I am going to start with "off-sides"
This is one of the most confusing rules out there! :-)
Please check back often....
A Few Reminders
I just want to remind everyone of a few rules we follow.
During the game we discourage the wearing of any jewelry, hats or sunglasses. These are for safety reasons, both for the player, and the other players around them.
Parents, please remember that you can not stand behind the goal area and coach the kids. This is hard, we all want to encourage our defense, or offense when they are in position. But this is not allowed, it does distract the goalie.
Also, we need to remember to make sure that we are leaving AT LEAST a 2'- 3' space between the field line, and our chairs, blankets, and players who are sitting out. This is so the official can move easily, and for the players doing the throw ins.
Shin gaurds are REQUIRED to play in the St. Joseph Soccer Club. If a player forgets them, and another player has the time to share is fine, but no player should be allowed on the field with out them. Again, this is a safety issue.
If there is another issue that you notice, or are unsure of, please contact your coach, or send me an email, we will look into it for you.
Lost and Found
Added a new item under Bulletin Board.
If you find something, or you have lost something on the soccer fields, call me 841-1932, or email me Hack1sjo@aol.com, and I will post it here!
Game canceled due to weather??
If the weather is in question on game day, we will post an update here if the game is canceled just as soon as we get the word from Urbana.
You can also call the Urbana weather hotline, that number will be on your game schedule.
But remember if you have a 9AM game in Urbana, you may still have to make the drive to the field before the decision is made to cancel or not.
If the game is in St. Joseph the decision is between the coaches and will be posted here.
We will also have all game schedules posted as soon as they are available. So remember to check here often.
Maroon shirt or Grey shirt??
I have had a few people ask me, what shirt do we wear and when??
The team listed first on the game schedule will wear Maroon, the team listed second will wear gray WHEN ST.JOSPEH PLAYS ST.JOSEPH.
If you are playing in Urbana you will wear Maroon.
When you are playing Homer you will wear Gray. **** Please note that change ****
Not sure, check with your coach or call me, 469-2438 or email Hack1sjo@aol.com
Climbing on the nets!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.....
I was out this past Sunday and tied all of the 1st/2nd nets back up, and on Monday they are snapped and new holes have been added!
If you should see kids climbing up the nets or goal posts, would you please ask them to get off. They are NOT for climbing.
We are seeing more and more holes in the nets, and the ties that keep the nets up are being snapped.
Please help with the effort of taking care of our soccer goals. Replacement nets are expensive!!
Thanks for your help!
Please pick up your trash
Please remind your child to pick up all of their trash after both home and away games, or after practice.
This includes wrappers from snacks, and empty water bottles.
The Leader
Make sure you clink on the link added for The Leader article dated 4-27-2005 .
This 7th/8th grade team is coached by John Towns.
This is a great plug for our "push" at adding High School Soccer.

Thank you for supporting the St. Joseph Soccer Club!!!!
Welcome to the site!!
All-- This is an experiment in making use of a web site to help keep everyone informed about the things happening in the St. Joseph Soccer Club. It is our hope that the coaches will make use of this to post all information about practies and games and anything else they need to communicate. It will also be a mechanism to communicate more general information about the Club.
This is something we are just trying to get off the ground and we welcome any suggestions you might have for improvements. Feel free to send a note to me (John Towns, john_towns@speedymail.org) with your suggestions. I hope to establish various email lists to make communications easier for everyone also.
Please keep in mind that this is something we are just starting on and ask for some patience from folks as we figure out how to best make use of it.
Thanks!
Congratulations !!!!!!!!!
Congratulations !!!!!!!!!
Our 5th/6th grade team (U 12) and our 7th/8th grade team (U 14) took part in the Pirate Classic tournament held in Monticello on Nov. 5th & 6th.
The weather was what you would call "soccer weather" a little rain, cool and windy. However, this did not stop us all from having a great weekend, and participating in excellent soccer matches.
The tournament included teams from Mahomet, Farmer City, Monticello, St. Joseph, Tolono, Tuscola, Arcola, and Gibson City.
Our U14 team coached by John Towns, started with a game against Monticello. With a goal made by Mitchell Jannusch it made a score of 1-1 at half. However, St. Joseph fell with a 4 - 1 loss. Both teams played excellent soccer.
The second game was against Tolono, a very physical, fast paced, hard played game, and the kids played great! We ended with a loss, but spirits where high.
Our U12 team started their day with a great win over Tolono, with a score of 3-1, then a great game against Monticello. That game did not end with a win, we lost 2 -1 but they played AWESOME!
Sunday, back at the school our U14 team started the day with an 11:00am placement game against Arcola!
We had goals made by Mitchell Jannusch, Marcus Hack and Josh Hall. Excellent defense was made by Adam Glover, Drew Blaase, Mark Melchior, Kyle Carpenter, and Joel Furrer, and some terrific saves from both of our goalies, Zach Oscar and Shane Towns. Our midfielders in the games were Nathaniel Johnson, Nick Glover, Bryan Rumer and Terra Dawkins, the forward positions were played by Trevor Pratt, Marcus Hack, Mitchell Jannusch and Josh Hall.
The U14 team took 6th place and received their ribbons, and medals, then surprised coach Towns with the water cooler!
Our U12 team had a 1:00pm game against Arcola as well. They played a very hard, and skilled game. They fell to Arcola with a score of 6 – 2. So many awesome plays for such a young team, look for them to be a serious powerhouse in the future!
They brought home the 4th place trophy to St. Joseph! Congratulations to the Coach Gary Crawford and his talented team!
Thank you to all the players, and parents. What a great weekend. The tournament ran so smooth, the host team of Monticello did a fantastic job putting this together for all of the visiting towns! You saw a lot of good sportsmanship from everyone out there. We look forward to the next Pirate Classic!
