Way to go Lakers.....Im sure like many others never saw it coming. Could we see an atypical holder of the iron this year?

Great pitchers' duel between the Irish and Lakers, before the Irish bats finally came alive for 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th.

The game was then followed by the Tijl Vanderwege Show...

I see a much maligned league is representing this tournament very well. Maybe one or two of the loud mouths on this site will give that league a bit more credit in the future? It's funny how the majority of former or current members of the traditional powerhouse programs seem to keep their yappers shut and just play ball. Kudos to those guys keeping things classy over the years.

Veteran leadership combined with the experience of having played in the Class A tourney is invaluable. One reason the Skyline hasn't had a lot of success is because there aren't a lot of veteran teams in the league. Stockmen's represents consistency and veteran leadership, which is why they are still around in the tourney. If the other teams from the Skyline can keep their nucleus of players around for more than 2 years the league might be better from top to bottom. It's no surprise that Stockmen's is the only team left from the Skyline because Stockmen's has kept a core group of players around to give direction to those who are new to the club. Best wishes to all the teams that are left in the tourney. There have been some good games so far. Keep up the great effort!

Way to go St. Paul teams!!!!!
should be 4 out of 6 teams left from st.paul including 3!!!!!! from the ST. PAUL LEAGUE!!!!!
Veterans Smeterans, these teams just know how to play good solid baseball. While Mpls teams are busy "raking", literally. :)

I think Tiny Arch is spot on. That core nucleus of experienced players is so critical to continued success in the postseason. Just looking around at the teams that had great regular seasons but came up a bit short come playoff time Bloomington, St. Paul Capitals, Sport & Spine come to mind.

Teams like North End, Stockmen's, Shamrock, Pub, Park, and Tonka have that consistency year in and year out that is a tremendous asset. Obviously, you have to have the talent as well. But experience and execution will trump talent most days of the week.

North End? They have not been consistantly good so not sure where why you put them in that group of teams

North End was mentioned because they have a solid core that they've relied on to appear in back-to-back tourneys. I wasn't saying each of those teams are dynasties just that the core is solid, and then they're able to add pieces here and there to augment what they're doing.

All number one seeds are in the final four with Stockman's having the advantage. This is where depth becomes a major factor. When was the last time a team from the losers bracket took the title???

Only Tonka has done it prior to losing the Friday night game. I know it's happened losing the Friday night game and having to win two as well has teams forcing game to only to lose. Park has done both and I believe Tonka has as well.

Bottom line is it takes pitching depth to come back through the bottom hitting missles helps as well.

I heard Tonka is without Mellek and Erdahl this weekend which certainly dives into their staff. However, I still think they have more pitching depth then any of the other three remaining teams.

Coming through the loosers bracket has happened before and if Tonka beats Pub today it will happen again.

I just don't see North End or Stockmens matching up real well against Tonka even though both clubs have had a solid run and deserve much respect.......I just don't see anyone being able to stop The Moths from winning another title.

Couldn't make it out to the games this afternoon. Anyone know what the results were? The MBA website has conflicting information on their scoreboard they have the Millers beating Lyon's Pub 7-6, but then have Lyon's Pub over North End 4-1 in the late game. Is it Pub v. Irish tomorrow then?

Ha, looks like the MBA site has Pub and North End playing a 3:00 game at Hutchinson this afternoon. So I guess we'll chalk up any scores posted there as being unreliable.

Pub beats Tonka 7-6 in a classic. Tied 3-3 after 9, Pub goes up 6-3 in top of 10th, Tonka hits 2 homers, 2 run shot and solo to tie in bottom, then Pub wins with 1 in the 11th. Then Pub blows out North End to reach Championship game. Irish need to worry, Pub looks destined.

Maybe I misunderstood the format, but doesn't Pub need to win 2 out of 3 tomorrow? Confused on why the Irish would be worried at this point unless they'd rather be in Pub's position.
