How do you call a division wrong? They called:
1st Waltham
2nd Methuen
They got it right. Great job! You both deserve to advance and represent Eastern Mass!

OMG!!! If this is true I feel absolutely horrible for the Waltham girls. Ginger, Ginger, Ginger. You have some explainig to do.... Did they mess up any of the other divisions? How and what could they say to Waltham? I've always believed they should announce the scores when they announce winners. If it looks like fish and smells like fish, it must be fishy!!!

I too heard about this. I do not believe for one second that this could be true. And if it is, what happened?? If it was a tabulation error then I would be worried that the results of the entire day were comprimised. All of the teams in this division were very good but to us and all the people sitting around us and by the looks of it, most people on this message board, they were the clear first place team. So where does that leave them now? Are they sitting at home waiting for a call to see if they will qualify for Saturday?? If so, what a tragedy. Especially since Waltham is the organization who if I remember correctly last year was not allowed to advance if they were not first or second. Waltham girls we thought you were beyond amazing yesterday and we look forward to seeing you again next week and for weeks to come.

I am from Waltham and this rumor is true....The girls were told today. Something does not feel right...it is not fair to be given a first place trophy and then an "oops just kidding" the following day. Im not sure how or why this happened but this "mistake" is hurting a lot of girls.

I honestly HOPE that Waltham allows this team to compete next team. I also remember that they do not allow them to take invites but it is not their fault for yesterday's happenings.I believe those girls were amazing yesterday and I had them in first place!!!

I also agree that scores should be posted on the website just like it is for Nationals!

As a concerned parent i think eastern mass should post every teams score or each coach from this division should post their true score so we know exactly what team should have won. There should be nothing to hide at this point and we as parents need to know this is not all political.... Just my opinion..

something is not right then. It doesn't make sense that the team that most of us and supposedly the judges had in first suddenly is not in first and not even in second? And it seems odd that it happened in this division where most of the competition really was. WPWdogs, you tell those girls from Waltham that when we see them next weekend they will have a lot of people cheering for them in the stands from all over EMASS and NE, not just Waltham. And Everett and Methuen I am so sorry that this happened to you like this too. It should be explained.

I am sure Pop warner is having a difficult time dealing with the mistake that was made yesterday and I am sure they will make every effort to explain this to the three teams involved. I am just hoping that the Huskies are not going to be put down on this forum and for that matter @ qualifiers because they did not make the mistake. As disheartening it is for the Waltham team it was just as disheartening yesterday for the Everett girls. Midget novice division was very well represented at yesterdays competion! So many teams did such an awesome job!

Transparency is a start !

It means that everything should be visible to all parties. That the Cheer Director should be able to see all the scores.

The procedures that Eastern Mass follows should be known to all. Such as, do they have double checks for math on the score sheets, how do teams get invites to move on or how/why rules are interpreted a certain way. Because these things are not transparent to all, at times their decisions are subject to suspicion. People often feel that there is favortism with in Eastern Mass.

It is very sad for the girls for whom this is their last year.. What a bitter taste to leave in their mouth. So So sorry for those young ladies.

I agree with Tik Tok 100%. This is my daughter's last year and this really leaves a bad taste in my mouth for sure. I've always felt that there was favortism with a certain team (please do not ask me which team) but this series of events just proves it to me.

My only other point to make is that this division came on in the beginning toward the middle of the program.

Infact Medford, (the last team in the division to compete) went on right after the break. So there is no excuse for tally errors, there was plenty of time to check the Math.

If it really was the fault on one person - then it needs to be acknowledged as an isolated incident and the conference should move on.

If no one takes responsibility at the Conference or Personal level, then what type of example is this setting for the young women of Eastern Mass. Just ignore your mistakes, until they go away. That isn't a lesson I want my child to emulate. The powers at be need to be adults and set an example about responsibility.

cheermom01, we need not have to ask, you are either referring to Methuen or Everett and if I was a gambler, I'd strike it rich as to who you are actually referring too! Whichever the team it is that you think eastern mass has favortism for is such a bold statement to make. They are all young girls and it is not right to make comments like this. All three, for that matter, all the teams in that division worked very hard and went out and performed and gave it their 100%! I wish they would/could bring more teams down to Nationals from our NEW ENGLAND region because there is so much talent and I will be the first to offer a "good job" if another team other than my own went out and did just that "A GOOD JOB". Again, my heart definitely goes out to each and every one of those girls from all three teams and I wish them all the best of luck this weekend at qualifiers!

Tik Tok,
Is it that you wanted this to stay an isolated incident and they should have just moved on or did you want them to take responsibility and own up to the mistake that was made? I do believe they explained the mistake to each organization and are definitely taking responsibility for what happened.
I also think it would be a good idea to start posting the scores.

I wanted to say that this is an isolated incident, the guilty parties need to take responsibility and work toward restoring the trust that was broken. It seems that the resolution was handled in this manner and it is a relief. If something like this happens again in the near future, then it isn't isolated and they will need to address their procedure and safeguards. It will be very hard to for the Conference recover from a situation like this again.

Glad that this invite calls began this morning. Waltham, if you are going to qualifiers, Best Wishes!!!

I still find it hard to believe that a "mistake" was made on only ONE Team!!! 14 Divisions with 45 Teams competing in the afternoon session and discrepency's were found in only the Waltham scores?? Does anyone else find this strange??
They not only should POST the scores, they shoud also ANNOUNCE the 1st & 2nd place scores during the ceremony!!! Doing this may have prevented this "mistake" from happening.. Waltham, you should be upset, but in realty ALL teams should have concerns now... As it stands, EMASS now has egg on it's face, and until they come out and publicly explain what led up to this "mistake" and what plans will they have in place to prevent a "mistake" like this from occuring again in the furure... Another "mistake" would be if Waltham is not at Qualifiers!!! Hope to see you there because you clearly deserve it...

Hi: Unfortunately there was a mistake made. it was not in the scores, but the final score and when the tallying was done, the sorting in the computer didn't sort it correctly, so that is why Waltham was announced as the winner, Methuen second and the huskies not announced at all. The error was found after we got home and started looking at the score sheets. We are human. people and mistakes are made, they have been corrected and the teams have been told. Please do not continue on this forum bashing people for doing the best they can. That division could of gone to anyone and,I am sure Waltham will qualify to move on. Good luck to all this weekend.!! Let's not get this board shut down because of an honest mistake!!

I agree that the scores should be posted for all teams and all elements of the routine. I can not think of any other sport where the participants are expected to compete and not be able to measure their results directly against their peers.

These athletes are expected to be perfect in their routines and basically told, you got 5/6 for stunting, 5/6 for crowd participation, etc. They know where their deficiencies are, but not what they have to do to compete gain an advantage on their competition, except strive to be perfect.

What I mean by that is that scores are a total of various elements with in each of the grading criteria. So if Team A had 7/7 in stunting and you, Team B, have 6/7 in stunting, you know you have to add an element of difficulty to your stunting. Same goes for facials, tumbling, etc. There are elements of difficulty which can be manipulated to insulate your scores. It is nice to know where you measure up exactly in sports, so that the competition is targeted toward achievement, advancement and winning. This isn’t E/F squad, these girls are in it to win.

Ahhh how disappointed I am this morning logging on to read all these negative and accusatory posts. Is it sad? yes. should it have happened? NO, are people hurt? YES. But it was a mistake. Mistakes happen. Do you ALL think that Emass doesnt feel terrible? that they are actually and be honest.. actually made a mistake of this magnitude in the name of "favortism"???? if there were favoritism it would have been in the scores originally not in the announcement, the teams that were being favored would have had their names called in front of all of Emass family and friends. Stop it. cant we all just feel bad that it happened, stop pointing fingers and bring our girls to qualifiers next week? If Waltham doesnt go to qualifiers if they receive and invite then shame on them, those girls deserve to perform again, more than ever they should go out there and show everyone they should they deserve to be there just like Everett and Methuen and whomever else gets invited. This is a learning moment for all the girls involved, things like this will happen in life its how you react to those mistakes that determines the outcome. I wish ALL the girls in ALL divisions the best of luck next week. Represent Emass with pride and dignity.

I don't believe anybody wants the forum board shut down. All the bits & pieces of information about what happened has been shared through this forum. That's all we had. Thanks Lynette, you have been the only person who actually has shared information of the situation, and has given substance to the unfortunate mistake. I am sure that's all that everybody on this forum wanted to hear, was an explanation of what happened. And I agree, Waltham probably would and should move on. It's going to be an exciting qualifier.

There was no mention of it on this, or any site about it. All we got for information were postings!! Very Foggy, unclear information from people with no direct knowledge from within..
Nothing from EMASS.. Not bashing anyone.. Was just looking for clarification as I believe EVERYONE should be aware.. Good Luck to ALL !!

As a cheerleader my team wasn't called at Emass and we actually were the 1st place team, this was before invites. . . WE NEVER got the trophy we deserved because its tacky to take it away from the team that was announced for 1st place. And as a coach now I absolutely do not agree with scores being said while announcements are taking place, if after the awards they want to post them then go ahead but for your score to be said I DO NOT AGREE. . best of luck to all three teams saturday!
