Pirates Power Past Mariners
The Pirates opened their 2019 season with a bang, scoring twelve runs against three Mariners pitchers, as they cruised to the 12-1 win in the season opener for both teams. Eric Engler went the distance for the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits, striking out six.
Chris Peters led the way for the offense with three hits and a pair each of runs and RBI. Engler and fellow newcomer Russ Higgins had doubles.
Credit Peters too with the defensive play of the game; his diving catch in center field in the 4th inning saving possibly two runs and turning into an inning ending double play when his throw to second base beat the runner to the bag.
