Radnor Runs to Exciting Win 10-8 over Marple in Opener

After spotting Marple a 2-0 lead through two innings, Radnor exploded for 8 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, and added runs late to hold on for an exciting 10-8 season opening win over Marple.

Brooke Nicander led off the top of the 3rd with a walk. Courtesy runner Maura Holst, making her high school softball debut, promptly stole 2b and 3b, energizing the Radnor players. Audrey Rosenblum then laced a single to left field scoring Maura, and ended up circling the bases to tie the game after the ball went through the outfielder. Sarah Rosenblum followed with another single and stole 2b before being driven home by Grace Moore's single.

After Marple scored 2 in the bottom of the 3rd to retake the lead, Radnor exploded in the 4th with two outs and nobody on base. Sydney Aljian doubled over the center fielder's head, Brooke singled her in. Courtesy runner Maura ended up on 3b after Carolyn Eckstein's single, and then stole home as Carolyn stole second base. Audrey then doubled in Carolyn, and after another Sarah single, Grace drove in both runners with another single. Kate O'Sullivan and Kim Mullarkey followed with hits, making it 8 straight hits with 2 outs and 5 runs total.

Radnor added runs in the 6th and 7th on more two out rbi hits by Kim and Audrey, and held off the Tigers for the 10-8 win. Brooke Nicander pitched a complete game, battled through some early struggles but got stronger as the game went on and closed the door in the 7th inning for her first victory of the year!

Hitting stars abound for the Raiders. Audrey and Grace each had 3 hits and 3 RBIs,including a double for Audrey and a triple for Grace. Sarah also had 3 hits, and scored two runs. Kim had 2 hits and an RBI, and Brooke had a hit and a walk and scored three runs (thanks to courtesy runner Maura!). And Carolyn Eckstein was 2 for 4 with a triple, scored one run and made a couple of outstanding plays in center field.
