Horton Paces St. John's Win At the Swampscott Middle School, St. John's took on Gate of Heaven of South Boston ina non-league game. Gate of Heaven's only loss of the season had been to St. John's. St. John's got off to a quick start and never looked back for a convincing victory. St. John's dominated inside early with Vic Quagrello and Reese Matela scoring on offensive putbacks followed by two Sophia DiVall free throws to push the lead to six early on. After a Gatey free throw, St. John's would go on another roll. Olivia Horton hit a jumper, Quagrello grabbed a steal and went in for a lay up, followed by two Jessie Ford field goals to make it 14-1 just over half way through the first half. The two teams would battle down the stretch with Horton leading the way with five late points to make the score 23-9 in favor of St. John's at halftime. Gatey would close the gap to 27-14 before St. John's would get hot again. Nikki Spathanas and Divall scored inside to start a run. Sydney DeRoche scored twice, Jessie Ford hit a runner in the lane, and Anna Dahlman scored and then assisted on a Reese Matela basket to cap a 14-0 run to put the game out of reach at 41-14 with 6:50 still left to play. Olivia Horton would hit a 3-pointer and add another to her game high of 12 points as St. John's cruised to a 53-23 win. Reese Matela finished with another double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 4 blocks. Jessie Ford added 10 points and 6 rebounds as St. John's improved to 14-5 on the season.
