No Upset for St. John's
At Peabody High School, St. John's took on league powerhouse St. Adelaide of Peabody. St. Adelaide was looking for its 28th straight win and had won 36 of their last 37 games. St. John's jumped to an early lead but a St. Adelaide 13-0 run midway through the second half put the upset just out of reach.

Peabody struck first before St. John's got rolling. Nikki Spathanas tied it up, followed by a basket from Vic Quagrello and four point from Olivia Horton to lead 8-2 at the 9:57 mark. St. Adelaide would slowly start to come back and would tie the game. St. John's countered with two Spathanas free throws and a Sydney DeRoche 3-pointer to regain the lead. St. Adelaide would briefly retake the lead with 1:37 left before two late DeRoche free throws sent St. John's into the half with a one point lead.

With a little less than two minutes gone in the second half, St. Adelaide reestablished the lead on an Abby Bettencourt three. St. John's would not roll over. In her best game of the year, Nikki Spathanas fed Vic Quagrello and then made two free throws as the momentum switched back to St. John's. A Jessie Ford steal led to a DeRoche basket to put St. John's up by five with 11:47 to go. Peabody's Logan Lomasney made a free throw at the 9:31 mark to end a six point run and give St. Adelaide a 23-22 lead. The two teams would match baskets during the next two possesions with Vic Quagrello and Sydeney DeRoche scoring for St. John's as St. Adelaide held onto a slim 27-26 lead with 7:17 on the clock. The game would now seesaw the other way. The St. Adelaide full court pressure forced turnovers and they went on a 13 point run to take a 40-26 lead. St. John's would respond with a DeRoche free throw and two Jessie Ford free throws to make it 40-29 with 3:07 left. But the upset was not to be. St. John's would not score again until an Anna Dahlman basket with 1:37 left but it was too late. Olivia Horton drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make the final score 47-37 in favor of St. Adelaide.

Sydney DeRoche led the St. John's scoring with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Nikki Spathanas grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with six points as she also did a great defensive job against one of the best St. Adelaide players. The loss snapped St. Johns' six game winning streak. They are now 8-3 in the league and 13-5 overall.
