Triple Threat Carries St. John's to Non-League Win At the Swampscott Middle School, St. John's hosted Beverly in a non league game. Led by three players with double figures in scoring, St. John's easily defeated Beverly 46-21. St. John's got off to a hot start with Reese Matela scoring 4 of the first 7 points as St. John's raced to a 7-0 lead at the 10:46 mark. After a Beverly 3-pointer, St. John's would go on a 20-0 run to end the half. Vi Quagrello and Nikki Spathanas would each score 6 points during the run and the St. John's defense was stifling. Quagrello had four steals, while Reese Matela(3), Jessie Ford(2), and Anna Dahlman(1) led a block party for St. John's. Beverly simply could not get anything going as St. John's led 27-3 at the half. The game would never get close. Sydney DeRoche led the way in the second half with 6 points. Olivia Horton drained a 3-pointer for the 46-21 win. DeRoche led St. John's with 11 points. Resse Matela added 10 points and 12 rebounds and Vic Quagrello tossed in 10 points.Sophia DiVall, Jessie Ford, and Nikki Spathanas each had seven rebounds as St. John's controlled the game throughout.
