OYTF Severe Weather ProtocolOYTF has adopted a general guideline that will be followed by the OYTF Board to determine the protocol in cancelling Cheer and Football Practice due to Severe Weather. This guideline will be enacted by the Commissioners, Football and Cheer, in the event that a weather system is detected in the area that may impact the organizations ability to hold a scheduled practice.
? Communication between the Football and/or Cheer Commissioners to discuss if the Weather System will impact OYTF’s ability to hold practice will be held prior to 4pm on the day of practice, this may be done via Telephone, Text Message or E-Mail. If it is believed that practice can resume as scheduled then no communication is necessary to the parents and the ‘Red Flags’ should be flown at the practice filed.
? If it appears that the weather system could potentially impact scheduled practice but determination cannot be made prior to 4pm then a communication to the Board Members and Parents that Practice is still scheduled but further final determination will be made at the field at 5:30pm. Communication should instruct parents to remain in their vehicles or under shelter with their child(ren) until OYTF has determined that it is safe to take the field.
? If it appears that the weather system will impact practice prior to 4pm a Calling Post Message will be setup to call all Families of the Organization at the number provided during registration informing them of cancellation. Additionally, Commissioners are to contact their Coaches to inform them of the decision. A posting should also be put on the OYTF Website and the OYTF Facebook Page. ‘Black Flags’ should be flown at the practice field.
? In the event that there is lightning with the Severe Weather, OYTF Participants must remain off of the open field for a period of time, not less than 30 minutes, after the last lightning strike is seen.
? In the event that there is a Tornado Watch, the ‘Red Flags’ should be flown and in the event that the Tornado Watch is upgraded to a Warning practice will be cancelled immediately and all participants and families should evacuate the Practice Fields immediately.
Team Coaches are not to make a determination of cancelling practice without the approval of the OYTF Board. Coaches are expected to be at the field unless cancellation has been determined prior to 4pm to help direct participants. Oswego Youth Tackle Football & Cheer Severe Weather Protocol - 2012
